Wow Ronnie!!

Great points about kite flying skills being a huge help.
All I did is point to the videos put together by her uncle (who created Boardriding Maui) and her father - who is also an expert foiler.

Re: teaching absolute newbie

There are videos of the stages of Kailani learning - with foiling being the intent from the start. Aged 8 to 9 years old while learning.

Re: Is it possible to kite a surf-foil?

I think you are on the right track liv2surf. No surf or sup foils have yet embraced canard concept but it seems a good fit. More lift for a given wing size (need smaller wings). Rear foit focus. Tendency to drop down when front wing breaches. The takuma seems great for sup but very slow for kite. T...

Re: -ing gear for the lightest of the winds

Windfoil has to be more fun to pack/paddle-in when the wind dies. So they would have more fun chasing the truest lightest winds. When talking about lowest-end, windspeed matters plus/minus 1 knot and is hard to measure. But there's also the wind gradient and wind gusts/lulls to consider. (And air d...

Re: Safest Control Bar

It could be done with an IDS kite (where the kite is designed to roll on it's back when the bar goes out 3m). You let go of the bar and it flags out. To reset you pull in 3m of line to get to the bar.

That is what people said when we started using Surfboards instead of twin tips in waves.

Bernd - on the monofoiling thread, is thinking about how the monofoil might work in waves.
It seems (from Bernd's reports), to have a more limited windrange, but be very efficient and manouverable.
