Re: Peter Lynn introduce the Aero V2

That interview is for the Aero. The Aero V2 looks very different. It's also dated a year ago. All the new stuff in the Aero V2 would require a major lift in manufacturing processes. There's a bunch of factories already doing that. I'm just curious about it. I'm interested in seeing the aspect ratio....

Re: Peter Lynn introduce the Aero V2

All the other high performance foils are made by paraglider companies. The Aero is offering some very up to date paraglider design elements. It begs the question who actually designed the Aero, and who is building it? The promotional video is wonderful. It's a bit disappointing that they don't provi...

There was a lot of Aero v2 at the Hydrofoil Pro Tour in France this weekend but they were owned by team riders and it was not possible to test them :(
How did they do?

Re: Help with my foil starts

Almost every start I do is up onto the foil. I have a lower speed, surf foil and a bigger kite for more power helps. I weigh 175 and would probably use a 10m surf kite in the conditions you describe. For my foil I place the back foot in front of the foil so that it comes up and doesn't stall or buck...

Re: Ozone Zephyr V5 vs Switch Helium 3

I have a Helium 2 15.5 that I use for foiling. It's a very good kite. Everything from Switch is very good. I'm not sure it's worth going into a long review when there is one truly insurmountable difference between the Zephyr and the Helium. The Zephyr is more than double the price of the Helium. Eve...

Upwind Rotations

I see Øyvind and others doing upwind rotations, seemingly at will with no apparent speed or kite power involved. How does that happen? If I try that I end up doing a carving 360 (with varying degrees of success), or just stop dead. I can do quite tight downwind turns, but there is pull from the kite...

Re: Epirb? flares? 2 way radio set to maritime channel, cell ph in a waterproof case?

I have made calls from the Apple Watch using Siri. It works but it's hard to do when flying a kite. I guess in a proper emergency then you wouldn't be flying the kite. You'd be sitting there wishing to get rescued. In that case you could push the SOS button. It would make sense to have an emergency ...

Re: Epirb? flares? 2 way radio set to maritime channel, cell ph in a waterproof case?

I have an Apple watch series 2. My partner can track me on it. I can call emergency services. I have made calls while kiting, just to try it out. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing. You need to make sure your battery is fully charged before a session. It's hard to work the touch screen wi...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

I just did a Brummel splice experiment where I measured a 50cm length of 2mm Dyneema under 5kg tension. The measuring device was a length of timber (a fence post) with a nail to attach the loop to, and the 50cm length marked with a steel rule. The actual Brummel splice bit can be measured accurately...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

Sorry, running the line back and forth through does absolutely nothing useful. If you hold the rope around the buried section and pull the loop the bury pulls straight out. Back and forth does make a little bit of a splice, similar to doing a bury, but it doesn't lock anything ... and it looks ugly....
