Re: Kitefoiling at the 2024 Olympic games

I reckon it would be really cool to have men and women racing together. That's what happens on San Fran club nights and the women are right up there with the leaders. Probably won't happen though, the only Olympic sport that I can think of where it does is equestrian. For a laugh, I might rock up at...

Re: Kiteboarding is officially sailing, gets its own medal for Paris 2024

I found this press release: http://formulakite.com/news/item/413-kiteboarding-clears-hurdle-to-make-it-to-paris-2024-olympics-after-world-sailing-mid-year-meeting-decision It will be interesting to see how they choose to run a mixed event and what will be defined as a production series hyrdrofoil an...

Re: Switch Lineup

True. If you're a learner on a high aspect foil it might be nice to have a bit more power though. I have been using a Element V1 13m as a light wind kite and it works well but it is heavier and you need to keep working the kite to keep it in the air. I'm curious to see how the 12m Helium flies in re...

Re: Important Message: I almost died - Gunnar Biniasch

A downed kiter can be almost impossible to spot when the water is rough and there is lot of activity. I have had one big swim experience and no-one noticed. The other issue is that foilers can get a lot further upwind and downwind than everyone else. People aren't generally looking in those directio...

Two European private equity companies fighting for control in a US court is a bit strange, the judge obviously thought so too. They are destroying a lot of brand value here. They should have cut a mutually acceptable deal much earlier.

Re: I'll have to change my name now North Kiteboarding is no more..

I had always assumed that Boards & More licensed the name from North Sails and there was no other financial relationship. It made sense back in the early 2000's when kiting grew from the windsurfing community but times have changed. If they have lost the rights, they could always relaunch as (say) F...

Re: Are Switch kites getting any better?

The Legacy mega-loops very well, if you are brave enough. The small ones whip around pretty fast and the yank is huge. The 8m Legacy can be used in very strong winds, it is very stable and has heaps of depower. It can handle more wind than the 7m Combat I was using previously. I have an old (2009) 6...

Re: The end of kiteboarding in Florida?

I genuinely feel sorry for you guys. Here in New Zealand we have this lovely anachronistic concept of Queen's Chain, which reserves public access within one chain = 66 ft = 20m of any waterway. Legally, it is not quite as simple as that, but it does mean that you can pretty much bluff your way onto ...

Re: Shocking Winds!

If you weren't so American-centric you would know that other parts of the world are having record temperatures; e.g. Sydney was 47 degrees centigrade yesterday. Last year was the second hottest year ever recorded despite being at near solar minimum. Solar variation over a sunspot cycle is tiny, abou...

Re: Are Switch kites getting any better?

The big V6 Elements don't look anything like a Rally. They are not at all delta shaped and appear to be higher aspect than in the past. I think Switch are trying to make the Element more all-round and less wave oriented. All conjecture as I haven't flown one.
