Re: What's the dumbest thing you have seen a newbie do?

I have only one story that really fits, here it is again: A guy with maybe a season of experience (but possibly not all in the same season, I’m not sure) came out and brought his sand screw anchor. Metal corkscrew, maybe 75cm. He launched ok and plowed around a bit, then went to land his kite with t...

Re: Anti-slip material on foil board. Where to buy?

If sugar coat nonskid comes out too coarse you could just lightly sand it, or spray a coat or two of polyurethane on top....

Re: I need convincing too:) Bar back lines!

With 12 strand braids of sk75, sk99 used normally, keep in mind all the strands are exposed so wear and is a key factor in the apparent over specification of 300-400kg lines. If you could find a lighter sleeved line with core protected maybe you could go weaker strength with less durability loss. Bu...

Re: How to build a bar? Just the rod/pole item ~60cm. Anyone done it?

Tom that bar looks great! I have a suggestion for reinforcing the center (or any other part) against impact: Overwrap with lower modulus fiber/fabric of your choice, perhaps in lower modulus matrix. I think if I make a bar I might overwrap the whole thing with some kind of polyester cloth in a PU of...

Re: Home made harness idea

I have carried over 120lbs. more than 15 miles on foot with this rucksack but have you hung your weight from it all day, with occasional extra G loading from jumps and crashes? Sounds like apples and oranges to me. The tricky part of harnesses is the design/fit and sewing details, the metal aspect ...

Thanks for the quick replies. Haha, not going to be working on the days I go kiteboarding. I will be sitting in the back of the plane on those days.
Of course, you got the right idea!
You will love it. I have some pilot friends who picked up kiting really well. Have a great time!

Re: TT thin vs thick rails

nope. thick rails hold better and re-set better when you are bouncing over chop. Actually easier to ride. thin rails can seem to have a precise edge feel, whether real or imagined, but they can blow out unexpectedly and usually make board construction more complicated. In many boards with stepped do...

Re: Researching kiteboarding locations

If you don't mind a wetsuit, PDX comes to mind. Various options within an hour, lots of kiters, stores, etc. Need warmer? Houston/Galveston could be good. SF bay area could be good too... But to really learn, you will probably need to commit to kiting several days in a row, preferably in the same/si...
