Re: Choosing my first directional

You will be very happy with moving to a directional. Your knees will really love it, and don't be intimidated by riding strapless. Riding strapless allows you to move around a lot and change foot/knee angles. That is why I started riding strapless to begin with...my knees haven't bothered me since. ...

Re: Self Landing

I would encourage you to watch as many videos as you can. There are a ton of them showing every technique. You probably need to know them all depending upon your kite and the conditions for the day. Always be ready to release your kite and realize the consequences if you do that. First choice is alw...

Re: The Growth and Future of Kitesurfing

In 5 (not 10) years time....mainly marginalised and kooky I think..... Much as I love this sport, its already followed the windsurfing transition from a really exciting new sport, to a sport with really really expensive gear mainly done by slightly overweight men over 35 years old.....just like win...

Re: Nubie Alert: Avoid F1 boards and Mystic Harnesses

That's a pretty strong statement.

I've had two Dakine harnesses wear out, and I'm on my 5th year of hard use on my Mystic Warrior 2. Just my experience, but I use it hard in both fresh and salt water.

Re: Sea sick

Try ginger tablets 30 min before you go out. Won't make you drowsy, and it works great. Mariners' secret potion. Also, make sure you are well hydrated. One of the other posters mentioned inner ear issues. That's definitely a possibility, but you would notice it at other times besides kiting. If the ...

Re: How do we get more girls into kiting?

I've got two young daughters (9, 11). They've both expressed interest in kiting, but we're going to take it slow to keep it fun. They've started with skateboards and snowboards when they were 5 and they love them. I don't push them, just let them have fun even if that means riding on their bellies d...

Re: accident with helmets

It's funny how helmets have made such a progression in cycling. When the pros were required to start wearing them in the late 80s/early 90s, the tech just got better and better. Fit, cooling ability, safety, and looks all improved. Demand increased and companies flourished...just look at Giro. It fe...

Re: accident with helmets

Surfed for years, never had a board hit me in the head like kitesurfing. I got bonked good because the wind was 30-35mph and when I wiped out, I caught air, board came off upwind of me and smacked me. It wasn't because I fell on the board, it was the wind flipping a light surfboard downwind...unfort...

Re: accident with helmets

I only started wearing a helmet because I don't like getting sun burn on my bald head. I look at this issue as a choice. If you honestly think that kiting with a helmet makes you safe by all means wear one. But face it your tying yourself to a giant kite where an infinite amount of possible things ...

Re: Self launching/landing with a pet ground anchor

I have a "kite buddy" that is specifically made for sand and works great. I use the dog stake method in grass/dirt, but I have a huge, heavy duty dog stake that hold down a lion. I've self launched in 30 + mph winds without a problem. It's also very nice to self land if there is no one around and th...
