Re: Recs for Kite + Surfing spot in Portugal in July

To the original poster I would recommend Costa da Caparica. There are 3 beaches (Nova Vaga, Bela Vista and Fonte da Telha) where Kiting is allowed and the afternoon thermals are very mellow (usually good for kites from 9 to 12). There are usually some waves for surfing up to 3:00pm when the onshore ...

Re: Portugal Fuseta or Peniche

It's apples and oranges really. Peniche is a small town, but it's like a big city compared to Fuseta. The winters are much milder in Fuseta, but the summer months will probably drive you crazy with the sudden influx of tourists. As for kite conditions, I would say both are valid options especially i...

Re: kiting Portugal / Spain in July

I would seriously advise you to try and bring 2 kites and a single bar (pack them in vacuum bags if you have to) and those would be the 7 and the 9 or the 7 and the 10. If you absolutely cannot manage to bring 2 kites, then I would say that, with your weight and on a twintip, you could probably get ...

Re: Dog friendly Portuguese kiting spots?

I would go so far as to say that most of the spot kites in Portugal are very much dog-friendly. You just have to leave your stuff and the dog a bit far away from the crowds and you should be alright, especially when it is blowing hard as there will be much less people on the beach. I don't know wher...

Re: Vacuum pressure for sucking water out of a surfboard?

If you have a vacuum pump, then you need an intermediate reservoir to regulate the vacuum and collect the water. I have made a reservoir out of an old kite pump with a valve and a vacuum gauge http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t28/bertas_photo/Board%20Repair/DSC_0111_zps0ab6825a.jpg The tube that g...

Re: Azores, Guincho In Early July

The kite I use most in july in Guincho is my RPM 4.5m (weight 180lb) so packing shouldn't be a problem  The waves, however are hardly ever overhead in the summer. If the wind is nuking in guincho and it feels like too much to handle, drive south to Costa da Caparica. There are 3 beaches where k...

Re: Slingshot Wave SST for 2017?

I'm 82kg and I rode with an Airush converse 6'1'' by 18 1/4'' (not exactly a light wind board). I could go well enough with the 7m while the wind was around 20knots and then it dropped a bit (probably 15-17 knots) and the 9m was enough to keep me going upwind. These kites like to sit deep in the win...

Re: Firewire Vader

It seems that Firewire has discontinued the Vader both in Kite and Surf construction. The only kiteboards now showing on their website are the EVO and the Vanguard. Can anyone (Felix?) comment if that's the case or if it's a temporary thing?

Re: Slingshot Wave SST for 2017?

Yep. I ended up buying 7m and 9m 2017 Wave SSTs and had my first session today, first with the 7m and then, when the wind dropped a bit, with the 9m. Liked them very much as they flew very similar to my RPM's (perhaps a bit deeper in the window). Very grunty but didn't notice any difference going up...

Re: FireWire Evo KiteSurfBoard

I have completely destroyed two Firewire FST boards kiting in waves without ever doing a single jump. Their decks just completely delaminated under the front foot and both boards buckled. The second board had 2 4oz patches under both feet and the only difference is it took a few more sessions to del...
