The captain said St. Croix is 38 miles a way so it would be a long way to go each way on the boat.
But we can kite at The Bitter End Yacht club - any experience with that?

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I can rent boards easily at most places with good wind? I'd rather not deal with the airlines and a full board if possible.

The Kahoona is a good choice for an all-around kite with a big wind range. They work great in most conditions and styles of riding. Boost pretty well too. Let us know if you need more information on them.

not sure about right there in Montevideo but in Punta Del Este there are a couple of spots near Jose Ignacio. One is sweet lagoon.

are there any waves nearby also?
