Re: hydrofoiling in "normal winds"

Foiling difficulty is more about the water conditions that the wind. You do need stupid small kites for 20+ knots. One you have the right kite for the conditions its all good.

But the winder the harder the water conditions generally. So by inference it is harder to foil in higher winds.

Re: Self Landing Foilkites in 20+kts

what would be the ballpark upper wind limit for backstalling a 12m soul from zennith? also how easy is to land on the edge of the window and pull the highest backline to get it horizontal on the beach and then both lines to keep it there? Its not pulling it down that is the issue its securing the k...

Re: Self Landing Foilkites in 20+kts

What happens when the bottom wingtip hits the deck before you get to it? Does the kite roll over and power up? What kind of risk is involved in landing this way? Thxs! No, it bounces off and goes fast across the window edge to other side and explodes upon impact... Nah, Usually failure mode is a bu...

Re: Self Landing Foilkites in 20+kts

Awsome! I never thought to try that teather land. I'm game, I'll try it at least! Wrapping the kite around an object works great. Just be sure the object won't tear your kite fabric. I'd say beware of landing in a shadow though. It can work well, or it can bite you. I've put it down behind large sa...

Re: Self Landing Foilkites in 20+kts

Ps Teather and wind shadow landing are advanced techniques. Don't take them on if you don't have some decent foil flying nouse.

I wind shadow land about 80% of the time. It works well when you know how to fly into the shadow repeatedly.

Re: Self Landing Foilkites in 20+kts

I never said teather landing a foil was easy!.... Hehe. But it is possible. Run forest run is my advice. Let the bar go with the lite as high as practical before starting the run. Use a strong teather and anchor. If the kite hits the deck before you get there, there is a chance it will roll over and...

Re: Self Landing Foilkites in 20+kts

Land in a wind Shadow is a good one. Believe it or not a teacher land is possible. Teather with kite at 11, depower and let go of the bar. Run to the kite and catch the bottom wing tip before it hits the deck. Wrap around and object also works. Reverse land from 10, then pull safety once on the grou...
