Re: Q-Powerlines on Flysurfer

Thanks for all the advice. Decided to stick with braided line and splicing instead of Q-Power. I've just ordered some Liros from Blackbox Sailing (blackbox-sailing.de) and been doing some crude experiments on the strength and stability of Brummel vs simple eye splices... reading up here https://www....

Re: Recoating kite fabric

Yah I know! Everyone knows it's Quantum Physics that makes stuff waterproof, not chemical nanotechnology!

Q-Powerlines on Flysurfer

Time for new flying lines on my Flysurfer bars. I'm thinking of Q-Powerline (read up extensively on the pros and cons vs the Dyneema / Liros / Spectra that FS bars ship with). But a couple of questions: - How should I attach the depower line to the front line, given that I can't splice the Q-Powerli...

Re: Switching from Flysurfer to Lei

Just got my first LEI (12m Ocean Rodeo Flite) after years of foilkite-only. I love most things about Flysurfers but they suck in gusts, which is 99% of what we get where I now live. Only been out on the LEI once so far and was impressed compared to how I think my 12m foil would have handled the cond...

Best spot in the SF Bay Area?

I'm going to have one free day next weekend (Sept 7-9) in the San Francisco Bay area. If I hit only one spot, which one should it be? Anywhere within a 2-hour drive of San Francisco Airport. Forecast is terrible so far, but looks like westerlies if anything.

Re: Flysurfer-specific training?

Hi! - It's upwind angle and speed I mean. I can get riding, but I can't get back to my launch site when the wind is light, while the good riders with comparable boards and body weight on 15m or 17m tube kitescan. - Mixer test (MT) settings: I put the kite profile back to neutral because increased ca...

Re: Real risk to be hit by a lightening when riding

I met a guy who felt a tingle in his arms and harness because lightning struck nearby. His kite wasn't actually struck but that's probably just lucky. Seems like common sense to get off the water when there's a thunderstorm.
