Re: Leash carabiner opening after unhook trick?

Wow interesting info Zian. So it's not the leash. It's the size of the figure 8 which is the problem. I thought it was a faulty carabiner, but if it's the figure 8 the leash doesn't matter.

Re: Leash carabiner opening after unhook trick?

f--- that leash. Get a new one. Something is wrong about how that carabiner works on that particular model. All that needs to happen is the leash releases and the kite gets stuck in a tree and you are out the price of an entire kite. so poney up the $50 or whatever it costs for a new one. If you get...

Re: Why do pros often leash direct to CL?

The kites I use don't have a figure of 8 ring, its just an O ring, so you are supposed to hook onto the O ring, and also onto the chicken loop. However, as mentioned above, I've bent quite a few of the leash carabiners by getting them trapped between CL and hook, and on one occasion as also mention...

Re: DIY bar strength?

Why do center lines have to pass through a "hole in the bar"? Think U mounted to bottom of bar. Why would that not work? Plus maintains integrity (strength) of tube without the need for hole. they used to make control bars this way and I've used one before, but if you have used them you'll find the...

Re: Splicing tips?

I only use knitting needles on lines between 2mm and 3mm. It's a bit big for kite lines which are between 1.5mm and 2mm. I have a whole range of home made fids. Pencil is a good size for 5mm chicken lines. Choosing the exactly right size fid helps make splicing easier on crap lines. On new lines you...

Re: Jesse Richman in Nazare

Hard to get a grip on how difficult it might be to kite large waves. I know for regular surfers, big wave surfing is incredibly difficult, you have a mountain roaring behind you and every sense has to be at maximum alertness, as you instantly scout out your line while being thrown down the wave goin...

Re: Splicing tips?

I use a bicycle spoke cut off and a little piece of tape for lines that size. It's easier than using a wire for difficult to splice line.

Re: DIY bar strength?

center lines take up to 3 G's but pass through the bar, that can be up to half a ton loaded on the two centers. Steering lines typically take about 1/4 of that at max load, so up to 300 pounds or 140 kg. Remember the center lines pass through the center so there's no force from the centers lines tra...

Re: Why do pros often leash direct to CL?

I've seen a few video in including Lewis Crathern and Nic Jacobsen where they have the leash attached direct to the CL (not above the CL as in the old style suicide but hooked onto the loop itself). This means if they punch out the kite will be detached completely. Can someone tell me the advantage...
