Re: Skyline / Strawberry snow conditions?

You were riding Co-Op Creek. Good spot. We do get katabatic winds that come down from the N off the Uintas down strawberry river and Co-Op. Typically that would be during a high pressure setup and early in the day. If there was storm fallout over the Uintas it could have been a diverging outflow fro...

Re: Skyline / Strawberry snow conditions?

Snow conditions at UT sites are day to day with sun and temp being the key factors for snow quality. For the uninspired... the conditions probably suck, as skullcrusher points out. But if your'e paying attention and look beyond the most popular riding spots (strawberry river, bosco hill...) there ar...

Re: Line break while snowkite gliding?

I would argue against the logic that the stresses on gear go up much more whether flying in ridge lift, smooth air, thermals, or whatever. Stresses on gear are more pronounced by things like sand and sun exposure. I think kiters who want to fly off mountains should understand and consider the fact t...

Re: Anyone ever snowkited on Mt. Shasta?

Maybe set your sights on one of the other volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest of the USA. Mt Hood Mt Adams South Sister Mt Rainier Mt Baker Mt St Helens Newberry Crater 3 Fingered Jack Mt McLaughlin Surprisingly I have not heard of anyone summiting any of these big mountains with a snow kite. Surely ...

Re: Snow Kite Flying - Too Dangerous or Safe Enough?

Pal, the guy in the above video, is pretty much the best in the world when it comes to dynamic paragliding maneuvers. Comparatively he is looking a little dicey with his kite skills. After 15 years of paragliding I'm naturally trying to draw comparisons to kite flying/gliding. For me I think paragli...

Re: Current conditions at Skyline, UT or SLC area

If you haven't already figured it out... Skyline has plenty of snow with springtime conditions. People are also out kiting the local liquid spots this weekend.
