Re: A friendly warning: don't kite in Singapore

Simply asking these kinds of questions at their forum would invite snipes, name calling, and outright threats. "You came to my country, you should know" "We're not here to answer your stupid questions" ... would be the kinder responses. As my topic goes, best to stay away. If you actually did that,...

Re: Complete beginner advice..

OP you are on the right track. Get a trainer. Have fun on land with it. I would not get a small kite until after lessons. Once you get lessons they can help you decide size of kite. You do not have to buy from the instructor, but they can definitely give you advice. Make sure you get a good teacher....

Re: A friendly warning: don't kite in Singapore

I think it is common sense to ask locals about the rules and regulations. It was always a bit demoralizing for us who worked for a spot to see when people just came in to a local beach and didn't give a shit about the rules that were made to keep a spot open.

It was not my intention to take your quote out of context. :-)

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

Sure, I've both foil & flydoor xl twintip. On low wind days (which we have plenty) I cannot imagine that I could go foil any better than flydoor-twintip. Foil and any sized TT cannot compare. The foil will win that game every time. If you can go on a TT you'll be able to go on a door (simple fact i...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

The few times that I experienced lack of volume is when the wind dropped so much that I had very little pull when looping the kite, maybe only during 20% of the loop, kite barely staying in the air. And too much time between two loops or sines to stay longer on the surface and gain anything. The ki...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

For the same wetted surface, assuming you can angle that floaty board as much as necessary , it will have the same benefits you describe for your low volume board in terms of starting on the foil. You're not losing anything on that front having some volume in the board. But on the other hand, that ...

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

This is a pretty interesting, albeit super marginal discussion. I can see both points on which I have thoughts..but of course I can be wrong / missing pieces. I can go either way..if just standing on the board is the way you go to start floating up, then sure volume matters. On the old raceboards th...

The spring release I think usually is out around March. I've not hear anything yet.

Re: light wind surfboard vs foil board

Having ridden both..and far more different boards than I care to mention foil is easily the type of equipment that gets you going earliest. Now when that is said and done, I do agree that what ever floats your boat (so to speak) is what you should be riding, I had fun in waves on a longboard in ligh...
