Re: Foil weights

For me, no, I cannot feel the weight difference one riding. The total weight of the light foil (3kg) plus board weight (4kg) = 7kg. An extra 2kg for the aluminium is not a very large percentage, although 9kg total mass is quite a lot to carry on the ground! The wing tuning settings have a much stron...

Re: Foil weights

I would not sacrifice stiffness for weight ever. For me stiffness is far more important than weight. But it is quite nice to have a light weight foil if it is still able to achieve the required mechanical properties. My old aluminium T-bar was almost 4kg, plus another 1kg for the G10 wings making it...

Re: Tips needed on reducing the kangaroo effect

Is it only happening in choppy water? I find that a hydrofoil that has too much pitch stability to try and track the water surface too much. It wants to go up and down with the chop. But normally that happens with a faster racing type foilboard. The silente looks slower, but might be too pitch stabl...

Re: Seat or Waist harness for hydrofoil ?

For speed riding (with TT or with specific assymetrical speed board) a seat harness is much better. The lower point from which the kite pulls makes balancing at 45+ knots much much easier. I suspect that it is also for the lower attachment point, making control/balance easier that some racers use a ...

Re: Foil wing basics

Well explained Peter. The only part that I would disagree with is that beginner wings should be low aspect ratio. I am starting to find that the increased stability of a high aspect ratio wing far outweights the benefits of having a lower aspect ratio wing. The lower aspect ratio wing is simply easi...

Re: Foiling with big kites

I hope foilboard racing will help the development of extra light wind kites. For sub 8 knot winds, one needs a very light weight kite with excellent size to weight ratio. My experience is that with the lightest inflatable kite I have (3.6kg for a 14m) that the kite falling out the sky is my limiting...

Re: How to go fast?

Interesting question. I must put on a GPS again and see how I do on my Spotz. I am sure I would be doing a bit better than Casair's numbers without too much effort on the Spotz. What does the foil feel like when you go fast? Is it difficult to keep the pitch level, or does it feel locked in and almo...

Re: Jumping tips please

Yip, I also need some tips for the landing part. I seem to get some decent height simply be going out well powered instead of being very underpowered as I normally am for foilboarding.

But I find landing quite tricky and fall off for most of them. Any tips would be welcome.
