Re: Cabrinha bar repair advice pls

I’ll take well engineered anytime rather than over-engineered. Don’t like overly complicated things. Prefer simple gear with fewer things to go wrong and easier to repair when needed. Probably because I’m a bit simple myself.

Re: Fatality in France

Wow, ok, perhaps I didn’t say things clearly enough. Of course there is no reason to go out in 40 knots and of course it is dangerous. These things should be self evident to anyone with a self preservation instinct. That is not the issue. There is also no reason to go out in 20 knots and 20 knots is...

Re: Fatality in France

^this +1 except the rescue part.
Knowing how to safely self launch is just part of being a competent kiter but knowing when to do it/not do it is an important skill as well.

Re: alcohol and kitesurfing :-)

Actually, riding in crowded areas scares me a lot but a drink helps calm things down.

Re: Fatality in France

Can we please stop telling people we don’t know how much wind they can ride in safely. If you don’t know them or their local, you have no idea what they are capable of, so stop pretending you do. Thank you. Exactly! I'm perfectly capable of riding in 80 kt winds with my 12m. What gives anyone the r...

Re: Fatality in France

We don’t use the thumb down. Too easy to mistake it for a thumbs up at 30 meters. We just use hand across throat and walk towards the kite and unhook. To each their own. Just make sure the person holding the kite and the pilot agree on a signal.

Re: Comparative risk of kitesurfing

As with most sports, the risk & danger level is directly related to the individuals level of ignorance, arrogance & obliviousness. Which is what the insurance would be measuring as well. Kiting can be very safe or the most dangerous thing you have ever done. How far do you want to go? How much do yo...
