Re: Deal on Airush ultra vs. Naish Boxer

I have a Boxer 9m and I really like it. I don't think you will be using 9m below like 10 knots, so Ultra might be lighter but at this and higher wind speeds it does not matter much.

Re: Good bar suggestion

I find Ozone bars to be excellent, I have used my Ozone bar with many brands of kites (Ozone, RRD, Airush, Naish, Gaastra), all worked well (some may require reversing pigtails because center/side connectors are the other way around).

Re: new 2017/2018 Naish Boxer

I have both 12 and 9m Naish Boxers, love these kites, turning speed is just as I like it, sweet and predictable. When oversheeted they can backstall but it is just a matter of adjusting kite's trim.

Re: biggest regret purchase

TKF foil. Heavy and the rear wing was asymmetric. The front wing screws were too short and I lost the wing the first time I hit a sand bank.

Re: Weight difference

Sometimes there is very little difference. Some five or three strut kites are very lightly built, some one-strut kites are heavily reinforced. For example, some multi-strut kites: Ozone Reo 6m (1.9kg), RRD Addiction 9 (2.8kg), Gaastra Jet 13m (3.3kg) One strut kites: Airush Ultra 6m (1.8 kg), Naish ...

So if you have $$, local conditions are mostly light (10-12kts), only riding TT board --- 17-21m kites make all sense to me.
Totally agree, in my location I ride 18m half of the time.

Re: Trying to understand kite quiver

Regarding kite sizes in the quiver, it works when kite sizes are roughly 1.5 times different from one size to the next larger size. If one has good skills and needs less kites (e.g. to be light for travel), the difference can be larger, if one needs more fine tuning to the conditions the difference ...

Re: Complete beginner advice..

I do not think it is worth it to buy a dedicated trainer kite because you will need it probably for an hour or so. It would be better to borrow, if it is an option. If you have somebody to instruct you, you can start with like 9m inflatable in 4-5 m/s wind and it should be pretty safe and you can us...

Re: One strut kites - which the lightest of them all?

Interestingly enough, a kite being a one strut kite does not necessarily mean it is lighter than some 3/5 strut kites. Just for comparison -- weighted some of my current kites (all of them are from around 2013/2014): - Ozone Reo 6m (1.9kg) - RRD Addiction 9m (2.8kg) - Gaastra Jet 13m (3.3kg) So it l...

Ok, I’ll give you the long version of my search for the ultimate foiling kite.
Thank you Dwight, this is really good information. I had the same reservations about the Boxer but it is great to know that they have not overdone bombproofing the kite and that if flies light and nice.
