Re: kite size for colorado

Lotsa hiking, a little flying. Made the hike up to Snow Mesa from Spring Creek Pass trailhead. Nice snow coverage for this early. Boot top pow with a couple thin layers of dense older snow underneath. Waited 2 hours for wind to come up to 5 mph, launching the 15m took several attempts. The ultra lig...

Re: Website for Snow Depth Station Reports

There's this, http://www.weatherstreet.com/weather-forecast/colorado-snow-cover.htm , page down for 24 hr. My fav for analysis paralysis, http://avalanche.state.co.us/observations/weather-stations/ , each station clickable. Check avy hazard while you're there. Seeing is believing, http://www.keno.or...

Re: kite size for colorado

Hmmm. I've been getting consistent use of my Apex2 7.5m on snow and water. It starts mid October on the high grassy mesas (careful, make sacrifices to the gods of P-Tex). Been trying Sargents Mesa last couple weekends. It's convenient, 11,500' msl park n ride, but small and needs N wind. Tomorrow I ...

Re: 2015 season at the Lautaret Pass is ON !!!

C'est bon! We are still waiting for more snow here in Colorado. We had a good storm last week, almost enough. We appreciate your informative posts White Knight. I highly recommend your video "Boulgy Loop" for kiters aspiring to ride in the mountains, very instructive. Thanks for your contributions t...

Re: Top Five Reasons why Snowkiting is better than Water Kit

Reason #16 Wildlife, often see ptarmigan, grouse, hawks and eagles. Sometimes elk, deer, coyotes, lynx, bobcat (once). Now Matt, pretty sure those snowbunnies are extinct around here, those were Jackrabbits. You gotta check the tail! BTW 5 of 7 days on the lake the previous week. Hopeful this coming...

Re: Top Five Reasons why Snowkiting is better than Water Kit

Hmmmm, Matt, are you trying to start a riot here? 'Can't we all just get along?' Reasons you gotta do both: There's only 3 inches snow on Snow Mesa now (hiked up there on Wednesday), whereas the little bit of ice on the big lake is gone by noon each day. Ski boots help my feet heal from the bruises ...

They've been getting it on Cottonwood Pass too! (Sawatch mountains). We have had some watery fun on Blue Mesa reservoir, but I'm waxing up the skis again. TB

Re: Where to Snow Kite in the Rockies This Week? (Dec 16-20)

Hey, we just got back from kiting down there. Sunday on snow mesa the snow was pretty rough, some soft stuff in the gullies. Monday we tried a new spot west of snow mesa, found some real nice pow on Jarosa Mesa. Fun terrain, it should work well in most wind directions. It is a little farther in, may...

Re: San Juan Recon

Yes, yes excellent early season snow. Best conditions we've had yet on snow mesa last Sunday. Four of us up there enjoying the pow and steady winds.
Dumping at the moment, 16" so far this storm. Blue Mesa reservoir should be ready now.

Re: San Juan Recon

Sunday might be good again at Snow Mesa, it's snowing there now. Forecast winds look light 10-15 mph, just right, since i ran out of small kites last month, oops. Liking the new (2 me) hq matrixx 15m, first snow ride with it. Kept it real conservative on the last tour since I was alone, half way up ...
