Re: What's the worst thing about kite surfing?

Repetitive strain injuries from kiting too much ... elbows, ankles, hips. Old dogs can learn new tricks, just costs a lot more. ;-)

Re: Fiji - Tavarua

It does not appear that Fiji Air has an exemption for golf clubs, as many airlines do. So it might be less likely that the kite/golf bag gets through (no experience with them, just my guess) https://www.fijiairways.com/flight-information/excess-oversized-baggage/ My lesson learned lately: I got char...

Re: UK kitesurfer rescued after lines wrap legs

So the obvious question: why no knife? or couldn't reach it or dropped it?

A buddy had a Kite mare where he was hog tied but his harness turned and ccouldn't reach knife. Scary. Ideal to have one near upper body....I sewed one into impact vest at chest level.

Re: Fiji - Tavarua

Lucky dog! I've been once, but in our summer. I suspect surf is a lot smaller in the Antarctic summer, but looking at MS, seems there should be some swell: https://magicseaweed.com/Tavarua-Cloudbreak-Surf-Report/669/ Probably good for the SUP. I "surfed" CB twice, once 10-12' and once in 1-2' -- you...

Re: Converting surf board

If through bolting, big washers are a good idea. Yes! For my through hull DIY I used a plastic cutting board above and below, to make plates that will spread the force. This has worked fine on my kite foilboard for a year or more now. But in trying this with a SUP foil, there's a lot more forces in...

Re: Converting surf board

I am in Maui now, just used my converted surfboard tonight for a flat water foil session, yesterday in the waves. Nice to have a single board solution. Thought it sucks fiddling with hardware at the beach. I did through-hull bolt holes in mine, using a combination of golf clubs shafts glued in with ...

Re: Spitfire club

It was an interesting ride though. You never know. One day I may make myself one. A higher aspect speed carving foil would come first though. For some experimenting, you could try reversing any set of wings ... just will take a bunch of trial and error to get the lift and balance right. I am going ...

Re: Spitfire club

But that could have been my lack of experience on it. I could feel that it would be awesome doing slow style carving on waves. Ultimately I think I'm into higher speed carving where the traditional foil I think may shine a bit better. I am not in the spitfire club but maybe I can be an associate. I...

Re: 2016 Ben Wilson Surf Aeneema 8m/9m Review

WOW great review morhall, quick question: Does the Aeneema run true to size, I heard that the noise, noise pro and the TDZ you had to get 2 sizes down (I think) like if u wanted a 12/10/8 quiver you needed to get the 10/8/6 is that still the case (If it ever was)? Tnx. p.s. looking for an inexpensi...

Re: Drysuit or wetsuit if you anticipate a swim?!

I have an older Ocean Rodeo SurfDry. It is a drysuit covered in a 1mm wetsuit -- so the idea is to be dry underneath, but still be able to duck dive. Easier paddling. Also less likely to drown or die of hypothermia swimming in a plastic bag, if you happen to get a bad fin cut. However, the negative ...
