Re: Foil - wave riding

One particular occasion where an outer reef 1km out was breaking a big lazy 1.5 - double me size wave. I rode that bastard as it broke and reformed all the way into the beach. Pure magic. Becuase it was peeling and reforming i could get close into the impact zone safely and back out again both up a...

Re: Moon on a stick?

I punched through 4 holes in my BWS drifter kite surfboard for a single board travel combo. It's a little bigger than I'd prefer for my foil, but works fine. Bonus is the warm water jets tickling my feet while kite surfing. ;-) Similar to Slappy's buddy, I picked up a tomo vanguard kite board with t...

Re: Pain at the Elbow - Kiter's Elbow: Treatment & Prevention

I’ve had this on and off for past 8 years or so. Worst thing for mine is stand up paddling and chainsawing. But it flares up with kite sessions where there’s excessive working the kite – such as high winds, small kite, riding toeside (surfboard or foil), where the kite is blasting against one arm. A...

Re: Large compact wings for surfimg on a hydrofoil

Interesting your experience. I used to love my stringy wings until I got used to riding the bigger wings. Now I still enjoy it, but it's a different style, and I have to say I find it really difficult to ride in comparison. We may have similar experiences just in reverse. I am so used to my stringy...

Re: Shinnster thoughts

I have a copy of one made of wood door veneer. Fun board, goes upwind shockingly well, can hold its edge in small waves, but also really slidey to play around with surface tricks. Can even do strapless airs on them, to some extent. I experimented with bigger fins, found it held edge better, but it l...

Re: Large compact wings for surfing on a hydrofoil

I came into some slingshot gear, so I've been experimenting with the H2 and H4 wings. Had a fun session last weekend in some decent size wind swells, was sure noticable when the H4 caught a wave, as it would accelerate downwind towards the kite to point of wondering if it could drift fast enough to ...

Re: two board quiver

Do not agree with the 1 kite 3 board TT/SB/HF solution. Some spots will be equally suitable for all 3 if the kiteboarder has a high level of boardcontrol. In reality I find myself selecting spots based on which board I ride. If wind drops, but has been 35 kts hours before the Dutch North sea coast ...

Re: two board quiver

Sounds like you already know the answer: 3 boards, 1 kite. Rig for the surfboard mid range. If wind increases, grab your twintip and go do some jumps. If wind drops, go rip around on your foil. Having all 3 on beach allows for quick changes. If you're travelling light, you can drop 1 board by having...

Re: Foil - wave riding

To be clear. I want a kite that I can park and forget about and just rip the wave. I do not want to be actively flying it. -- Gunnar That sounds like the BWS promo line 5 years ago "surf the wave, not the kite". From what I saw, they were the first to aggressively market the "surf kite", with maxim...

Re: Foil - wave riding

Fun to read this thread 5 years later, especially for all the negative nellies. The gear has sure evolved a lot since then ... but even moreso, seems eyes and minds have opened too. Those videos are looking really unimpressive. Where is the action and the fun? No cut backs, no splashes, no slashing,...
