Re: Hydrofoil comparison table

Similar to kites, it feels to me like the foil industry is "maturing" ... by which I mean it doesn't seem like there are seriously deficient foils (or kites) on the market that just don't work. Some may work better than others for specific things, and every rider has their preference (usually the on...

Re: Casualty in Sicily

You will for sure pardon my poor english since this will be a long post. I was thinking yesterday night about the accident. Apparently, every of us here in front of our pc screen is cautious and reasonable. The video of the squall coming speaks for itself, it's a totally no go situation. It's so ea...

Re: Is my instructor bias regarding buying gear?

Go to the beach a few times under normal wind conditions. What is everyone riding. Since you're light, get a kite on the smaller side of the range. X2. I'd be very cautious about relying on reported winds from websites or weather stations. There are so many local variations, that they are at best a...

Re: Hydrofoil comparison table

Couple good ones here. The tables in the first are quite helpful, providing lift and max speeds. Not specifically aimed at kiting, more about how to select between surf/sup/wake alternative uses. http://www.mackiteboarding.com/Foilboarding-Styles-Foil-Fridays-Ep-01/ http://www.mackiteboarding.com/hy...

Re: Foilers vs Kiters proportion now

This really depends on the spot, like Toby pointed out, if you have 25+ knots everyday, you wont foil much i guess. But if like me, you have 60% of the day with a seabreeze between 5 and 12 knots, you wont touch the TT much. I started foiling for light wind kicks, then found out the 25kt+ foil days...

Re: Foilers vs Kiters proportion now

Very good question. Seems to be folks who look at it as a light wind option and then there are those who strictly ride foil in any situation... Interesting to see how it somewhat divides the kiting community....kind of like the division between the windsurfers and the kiters.....the foilers vs. the...

Re: How much discount on a 2016 kite?

Retail kite pricing often seems to have a msrp (manufacturer suggested retail price) that pretty much no one pays and then an actual retail price. So when talking % off......need to know what price you are starting with. For example. ...one brand I am familiar with introduced an ambassador program w...

Re: Help with Ben Wilson Surf Slow Leak

Awesome, sounds like you're on the right track. The ocean side is where the wave are, that's the fun zone! :-) Downwinders are great, you can kitesurf the waves, not have to do the "work" of tacking back of upwind. I have a friend in Australia who is more a surfer than kiter, just plays around with ...

Re: Help with Ben Wilson Surf Slow Leak

repairing bladders is not normally as difficult as what you're experiencing ... don't know why, guess you've got unlucky selling old stuff ... there's a market for people who are willing to put up the hassles in return for paying less....just like used cars. Sounds like you got a lemon, unfortunatel...
