Re: How do you handle sea weed ?

This is something where rules could make sense. Just ban fins with a rake angle smaller than 40 degrees for competitions in areas with weed ! Does it make sense to replace a three-fin setup with a dual weed setup? That is the extra area and backward center of lift characteristic for weed fins could ...

Re: Speed 4 Bar pressure ???

I do not think those pictures show how to reduce bar pressure (unless your have a pulley to start with and go back to 1:1). They show to double it! If you want half bar pressure, your need to #1 Disconnect your steering lines #2 Make the steering lines 2-3 meters shorter or the front lines 2-3 meter...

Re: Depower question

Is it impossible to get a suitable double block for the upper part of a 4:1 setup?

On the website they say the bigger sizes will come next year, and that they will be 12, 15, 18 and 21.

Re: Hydro Foil almost done

Have anyone thought about making a foilboard for weed conditions? A 45 degree mast joined at the front of the big foil. Both foils would have to be 45 degree as well, so the mast should probably be mounted quite far ahead on the board. The loads would be large compared to the current design. I guess...

Re: sharp leading edge on racing fins

Maybe it would be usefull to look at a related field (same Re) with a strong foundation in engineering (the level of engineering in kiteboarding is very low). Maybe a propeller producer?

I would not be surprised, if a rounded leading edge is superior, so that the premise of your questions is invalid!

Re: sharp leading edge on racing fins

from what I have read, I think the Reynolds Numbers for water at 15-30knots are pretty much in the neighborhood of the Reynolds Numbers for air in trans-sonic to low supersonic range, due to the density water:air ~/= 800:1 This is very wrong, since the viscosity also increases with a factor 50. Rey...

Re: sharp leading edge on racing fins

Sharp trailing edges give rise to low drag at small Reynolds numbers (below 100, see page 117 of http://pnn.dk/phd/outreach/20120420_PNNielsen_PhDDefense.pdf) The Reynolds number of a race fin is probably around 500,000 (10 m/s, 5 cm), so I agree this is not the explanation. Commercial aircraft oper...

Re: Weed fins

Bonus question. Is it correct, that adding a bigger rear fin or just going for a weed fin, will give more rear foot pressure?

Weed fins

Probably a set of noob question but here goes: I am considering purchasing a set of weed fins for my raceboard. Is it correct, that to a first approximation a fin configuration can be characterized by the following two numbers(?, Question A). 1. The total fin area 2. The center of pressure (measured...
