Re: the right sized kite

What foil? Some foils are too slow and/or have too much drag to create enough apparent wind from an "underpowered" kite so you need to ride bigger than someone on a higher performance low-drag foil. I thought it was the other way around. The bigger the wing, more lift so you can ride with a smaller...

Re: One strut kites - which the lightest of them all?

My disclaimer: I am long time retired and kiting is my post-retirement hobby. I pay for all my kites. For the past few years I have owned only Clouds. I do indeed know the BRM owner and he mailed me a one strut Cloud to try and I mailed it back after a couple of days of use. Although I have no finan...

Re: One strut kites - which the lightest of them all?

e. I used my 10.4D yesterday ....... I had my hands on (and flew) the single strut Cloud D (ie. the D_1). Did the strut make a difference? I found that the D_1 performs very, very closely to the D (strutless....now known as D_0, but the same a s D). I flew them back to back a number of times. Most ...

Re: One strut kites - which the lightest of them all?

Agree with Peter...exact precise area measurement are not so important. And weigh the kites to be certain. I have weighed my Clouds when new and the weights have generally been a 10 to 50 grams less than those listed on the website. I used my 10.4D yesterday and it is still damp and a little sandy. ...

Re: Anyone getting a single strut Switch Element for high wind foiling?

I wanted to second what Max wrote. The D's rarely flutter. And they are way different kites than the C.5 version. Also, I agree with 3inletswindsports above on the advantage of one or no strut kites having an advantage in low winds....staying aloft. But i do not think the advantage of these kites is...

Re: 17m vs 14m LEI?

I agree that the smaller the kite the more fun it can be, even if it is more challenging (that is part of the fun). I just finished long session with my 6.2m Cloud D. Had plenty of power. I reviewed the wind chart and it was 2 hours of averaging 13 to 16 mph. I realize that I could have just as well...

Re: Big TT or Surfboard for lightwind?

You answered the question for yourself when you wrote: " since I started I've wanted to learn to ride strapless on a surfboard (I don't really know why, I just think it looks fun) I used to wakeskate and I loved the feeling of not being attached." Thus, you should get a surfboard. There are light wi...

Re: BRM Cloud C.5 8.5 vs 8.0 D

I flew the 8.5 a lot and then sold it and have flown the 8.0 a lot since. But I did do multiple back to back comparisons. So please take this as my best guess. I think I can hydrofoil with the 8.0 D and the same low wind speed as the 8.5 C.5 and I think I am comfortable foiling with it at 2 knots hi...

Re: BRM Cloud C.5 8.5 vs 8.0 D

I have flown both of them a lot....as have others...and I expect our subjective impressions would vary. Both are very light and nimble and fast. The D has a little less bar pressure and a little more relative pull from the center lines. The D will turn with very little tension on the lines, the .5 n...
