Re: Can't slow down

I was pointing hard into the wind with the kite high for quite a while before I had the balance and skill to take advantage of pointing deep downwind to kill power. It works very well of course, but at first its nicer to have the familiarity of line tension to lean against and simply keep carving up...

Re: Escape From Glass Window Bridge - A Kiting Sea Story

Firstly, glad you made it out in tact. But WTF! For a guy with all the safety gear and the personality to obsessively chronicle all things kite safety related it baffles me that you would be the one to attempt such an obviously reckless session. Of all the fantastic places to kite in the world, some...

Re: First session - horrendous

Oz bungy said it, but it's worth repeating. You never tame a foil. Everything gets a lot better when you stop muscling the board around with brute force. It flows easily if you learn to work with it. Goes for carrying it, body dragging, getting out past shorebreak, and getting it into waterstart pos...

Re: Looking for a good kite for Foiling, any tips?

I wouldn't get either of those. They are both 5 strut kites, and the rebel is 5 line. You push the low end far more than the top end, so think 3 struts or less. Your also far more likely to slack line by pure board speed so a 5 line kite that could roll through its lines is not a great idea. If you ...

Re: Moses HF 2017

I bet your foiling fun/freedom will go way up as soon as you start foiling with a bridled kite. I love a good C kite, but foiling is not what they suit! There are much better bridled kites than others for foiling, but almost anything will be a big improvement over a fuel. If your shopping, your look...

Re: How frequently do you disassemble and clean your foil?

Yeah, Tef Gel is anti corrosion. Need to cover all the threads. You want it to act as a galvanic barrier so it needs to be between the two dissimilar metals wherever they come in contact. In other words, goop em up pretty good. The stuff is greasy and coats well.

Re: Who's turned their wings around?

Sorry, not yet, but excited to get on with it.

I bet Jim Stringfellow's set up is ideal for experimentation. Hope to hear more from that source over the summer. He is also squarely in the free ride carving demographic I'd hope to hear from.

Re: Not feeling the love

Having to take the winter off, I find myself this spring with ALL the gear maintained, tuned and ready to go. Having gone through pretty much all of it, I had the nice realization, I've finally hit the point of no more gear lust. There are lots of cool and attractive pieces of kit out there, but I a...

Re: Not feeling the love

Not sure what you want to discuss?

I've been nursing injury for basically the entire winter and am dying to get back into the water. Haven't kited since OCTOBER! Try that on for size..... it sucks.

Consider yourself lucky.

Re: New Lift Foil, Tips for attatching to board

I'm always amazed that Greg Drexler has his foil mounted at the very back edge of his board. No option to stand with your foot behind the plate at all. In fact his pads and video show just how consistent his foot placement is. I ride with my rear foot generally on top of the plate, but there are mom...
