Re: Need advice on staying upwind in moderate wind

Sorry about the delay. Windy season died. It's blowing again. The first time I went out in steady light wind I had forgot all this advice, but it was a good refresher on what the problem is. Now it's mostly high winds, but in the gusts I'm getting practice and time to experiment w/ all this advice. ...

Re: Need help with Mako King

Hmm? I ride exactly like you have it sometimes and have no problem going upwind. I leave the straps on and ride it like a TT for awhile to gain ground, and then slip my feet out and back and ride like a surfboard. I actually find it easier to go upwind when I'm pushing all those 3 fins in the front....

Re: Need advice on staying upwind in moderate wind

Big Dog, I like riding powered and I think I get stuck in that mindset of lock that edge in hard. Probably too much so. I've experimented liberally w/ back foot weight vs front foot, as well as shoving the board more forward or back of my body, a lot of tweaks on whole rail in the water or just that...

Re: Need advice on staying upwind in moderate wind

Alright. I'll push out the bar more, and try to ride flat. Light winds should be coming soon, so I'll practice at light wind riding. Powered up, I've been trying to ride flatter and faster. It's mainly my right hand/goofy foot tack that I seem to choke off the power and ride very close to the wind. ...

Re: Need advice on staying upwind in moderate wind

Thanks all for the advice. There's some good tips, and I'll keep practicing. I'll report back if I find any magic keys. I don't pull back too much and stall the kite much. I also set my stopper ball some lately so I can't give in to temptation and "chicken out" of power. Instead I have to use the bo...

Re: Need advice on staying upwind in moderate wind

@ perf: The 15 kts is usually consistant, but the wind is dirty. There are micro jetstreams and lull spots, if you will. I do understand I have to ride dynamic to the momentary conditions, but practice... 12 months is actually about 3 years of 4 month windy seasons and I get out 1-4 times each week....

Need advice on staying upwind in moderate wind

All, I've been actively kiting for about 12-14 months, and I still have troubles staying upwind with about 15 kt conditions. I've watched videos and youttubes and tried different equipment and techniques, but I just can't seem to find the key to dealing with conditions most wouldn't even consider th...

Re: Thailand

Read up on kiteboarding asia. There's a lot of info. I learned Kiteboarding in Hua Hin in late November. It was quite nice. Stayed right up from teh beach at White Villa, I believe. I had contacted the shop. They recommended it and thought they had some arrangement w/ the place for a discount, but t...

Re: Switchblade alternative

Airush Lithium is often compared to the SB. I love my 2012. I will try the SB next week to compare. I originally went with the Airush vs the SB in 2012 because I stalled the SB a lot, but that was on my first lessons. Didn't know what I was doing then. (If I even do now...) I may go with the Airush ...

Re: Cab Switchblade Quiver for a Larger Rider

Get the 14. Save thousands. Your weight, you can probably hold it down in 20mph ok. Overpowered is one way (necessary technique, too) to learn. If you stick w/ kiteboarding and find yourself missing too many days due to high wind, THEN buy a second kite. Maybe by then you will want a different brand...
