Re: Floatation/impact vest

If floatation is your issue an impact vest plus wetsuit will do the job! I float just fine...it also adds some warmth if you have to lay in the water for some time! This ^^^. There are several threads discussing impact vests/flotation At some length, here is one: http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic....

Re: black kites

don't know about longevity, but black kites just look ugly. And I own one.

Re: Convertible challenge

Actually just finished bagging a board tonight. Spread tow carbon on top, glass on bottom.. Gonna be interesting to see how the flex turns out..

Re: Convertible challenge

Using 200gsm spread tow carbon @ 0deg on a TT, core can be 7mm centre tapered to 3mm at the tips. That's for a flat board with 5cm static rocker (each end) on a 140cm board.
With 85kg on it the rocker will go down to about 2cm.
Add concave and it gets stiffer.

Re: Airex/carbon kiteboard build

Getting rid of Air bubbles on the bottom is the toughest for me in building process. And they only get bigger in the heat of the sun. Doing it with a Isosport sheet will only result in way way worse result. ;) Depends on your prep work. If you have enough channels and holes you can get rid of the d...

Re: Airex/carbon kiteboard build

What about something like Soric, which is a polyester bulker mat. It should fill up nicely with resin and won't compress under vacuum.
Comes in a variety of thicknesses as well.

Re: Airex/carbon kiteboard build

One more question - would it make sense to make the rails using a square fiberglass rope as a filler? Glue it to the edge, make sure it's flush with the edge, and laminate with infusion. I'm thinking, something along the lines (pun intended) of 4x4mm that people use for fireplaces: Sounds like it c...

Re: Airex/carbon kiteboard build

Seeing as you have a working build process, you should be able to prototype new boards fairly easily.
One thing that I think is worth trying at least once is a an oval shaped board like the Nomad wave twinny.
Keep the flex and flat profile.

Re: Airex/carbon kiteboard build

Well done on a nice board! Just needs some colour now 8) Then, I've cut the board into 5 pieces, like brokites g5 (look it up on utube), and wrapped each of them on the sides with 5cm wide unidirectional carbon strips, that are almost long enough to reach the fins. This is supposed to form an I-beam...

Re: How to fall correctly?

If you _do_ ride with boots, an impact vest is recommended as your ribs take a pounding when you do a body-slam. I used to wear a helmet but not anymore because it looks uncool. No the real reason I don't wear a helmet while kiting anymore is I don't go that fast and I think the cons outweigh ...
