Re: 8mm G10 for front wing?

G10 is probably too flexible at 8mm and thinner. Also, very thin wings do not to have a good low end and tend to stall dramatically. I would do one of the following: -Epoxy 2 sheets of 8mm G10 and shape. -Use epoxy fill to build up and then shape the 8mm G10 to make a core. Laminate the core with a ...

Re: Carbon, steel, wood

The strut core is carbon fiber construction which is finished with 0.2mm real wood veneer. I sealed the wood with carbosil filler mixed with epoxy. The wood is just cosmetic. The leash plug at the front is for holding on to the board when body dragging out through waves and to attached the board to ...

Re: Strut length - your preferences

I have ridden 45cm, 60cm, 72cm, 80cm, 90cm, and 105cm. I like to carve turns, ride waves and swell, and jump. I gravitate to the 72cm and 80cm. I find the stiffness, direct feel, and shorter turning radius of the 72cm and 80cm work best for my style. With practice, you don't ventilate often and when...

Re: Downwind with swell speed control.

Here are a couple of photos for my current favorite surf/carving wing. Good low end, but still quite smooth. The thick profile keeps speed in check when riding swell/waves.

Re: Downwind with swell speed control.

The trick to not running down the face of the wave is to use a larger, slower wing. I build my own wings and have found a thicker medium aspect wing will not run down the face of the wave and will provide lift at slow speeds through transitions and in turbulent whitewater. It is MUCH easier to stay ...

Re: Frustrating good HF conditions

Use a foil with a shorter strut so you don't need to drag out so far. Downloop the kite to get up more quickly on on the foil.

Shorter struts are also easier to learn on.

Re: User friendly first foil / board?

I have struts of 45cm, 60cm, and 105cm. I can use the same fuselage and wings on all three, so the only difference is strut length when comparing. The 45cm strut has a very direct feel, but has the downside of frequent touch downs. Several learners have tried the 45cm strut and all found it much eas...

Re: Wave oriented hydrofoil

Who out there has actually ridden a short mast (<60cm) hydrofoil in the waves? Please share your experience.

Re: Wave oriented hydrofoil

I have few comments on PF's first post: Strut length: I don't think a mast of 80cm is short enough to take advantage of the maneuverability gains of short strut. I rode a foil with about a 80 cm mast and didn't feel much different than a 90-100cm strut. Wing and stabilizer design seem to have more i...
