Re: Eye Protection Goggles

Re: Wash or not wash your kites

Never wash. Salt water on a kite doesn't hurt it a bit. It's mold and mildew after putting it away wet with fresh water that does damage. Just look at professional sail boat racers. They never wash their sails except at the end of a season when they can do a full wash and completely dry them out bef...

Re: What's the dumbest thing you have seen a newbie do?

I'm gonna change a bit the topic to "What's the dumbest thing you did recently ?" Asked my friend who is absolutely not a Kitesurfer for a launch... I gave him the instructions beforehand and I kept telling him " do not let go until I give you thumb's up". He was struggling with lifting the L.E, an...

Re: How hard?

Trust the ping, it works. If you're completely tone deaf just buy a pump with a better gauge.

Re: Are Pulley bridles more tolerant to stretch/shrink?

^Dude. You obviously just want to argue.

That's not how kites work. Go tie your kite to a solid object, fully power it up near the ground, go ping the lines. You'll see that they're pretty equally tensioned. Then come back and whine about how the experiment is invalid.

Re: Are Pulley bridles more tolerant to stretch/shrink?

I can't agree on that. Just look at the drawing below. no pulley.JPG Let's assume that at this AoA (angle of attack) it is as you describe it. All bridle lines have load. Now imagine the AoA increasing (that is the trailing edge going down - back lines pulling more). What will happen to 6 in that c...

Re: Are Pulley bridles more tolerant to stretch/shrink?

No, all the front lines will share the load regardless of pulleys or no.

Re: What's the dumbest thing you have seen a newbie do?

When being asked to assist someone’s launch, I stand exactly where their kite is positioned on the beach, and don’t move an inch. If they ask me to move I shake my head, if they try and launch in a stupid position I just shake my head and point which way they need to move. If they won’t move, I jus...

Re: What's the dumbest thing you have seen a newbie do?

^^You can definitely wind your lines straight if you keep them tight. But if they fall off the bar, as was common back in the old days you were pretty screwed. Figure 8 is "safer". If you drop the lines off the bar for some reason they won't tangle.
