Re: The New 2018 Airush Core Foil Series Out Now

What are those numbers: 0.5, 1.0, and 1.2? Speaking of screw strength, the 2-screw solution allows thicker ones. The profile image above featuring 2 screw LF design is M8, while Airush looks like M6. This difference squared implies 77% more strength for M8, cubed is whopping 137%! Or yeah, don't for...

Re: Importance of foil weight/float

I would suggest that the problem is not alum mast itself, but more of sloppy fuselage design. For example, LF alum fuselage weights 1200 grams. When located 1 meter away from the board, its angular momentum is the most contributing factor to the speed with which the foil sinks. It has really dull sh...

Re: The New 2018 Airush Core Foil Series Out Now

Let's remove possible confusion and clarify that we are talking about the same couple of spars: profile3.png What I'm saying is that these two spars are so close to the leading and trailing edge that their effect is dubious. If you are not convinced, imagine moving those spars even closer to the edg...

Re: The New 2018 Airush Core Foil Series Out Now

Your idea that three bolts makes the connection less rigid doesn't make sense to me. Are you talking about torsion? How can moving the bolts further out from the center decrease torsional rigidity? Because it is not the connection point that flexes the most? I assume that if the mast plate has a co...

Re: Importance of foil weight/float

Never tried floating foil, but can imagine one disadvantage -- board staying on its side without a rider and floating across the wind. Somebody on this forum reported a weird behavior of his rig going upwind by itself. Is it indeed a problem, or board with floaty foil still follows you obediently li...

Re: The New 2018 Airush Core Foil Series Out Now

14 mm, thank you for the info. To be honest, I have a problem with reviews. Most of them essentially boil down to "I took the gadget for a spin and had some fun". I'm sorry, but this is not a test. Even clever and funny reviewers like Kitefinder.com fall into this trap. Witness their foil "review": ...

Re: The New 2018 Airush Core Foil Series Out Now

3 bolt mast connection, who invented this, Gillette? Just glimpse at the profile: profile3.png the leading and trailing holes are at the mast narrowest points, thus compromising structural strengths. Compare it to 2-bolt design profile2.png and notice the cross beams surrounding the bolt openings lo...

Re: Effect of Different Epoxies

What is the argument here? That different epoxy would give you some additional strength? You must be kidding, try eating with plastic fork at fast food restaurant without breaking it. The purpose of epoxy is to provide "a stable matrix [for CF fibres] to reside in and maintain their shape" , that's ...

Re: Effect of Different Epoxies

...The resin may contribute maybe 1%. You earlier mentioned that resin's tensile modulus is 3 GPa compared to carbon 150 GPa. That would be 2% :thumb: This number should be further adjusted up because the final product is never 100:1 or 1:100 proportion of resin and fiber. For that matter, what is ...

Re: Why would a city want Kiteboarders

Don't overlook the "green" factors... Don't. Anybody with half a brain (and please don't underestimate your local politician's mental abilities) would wonder "Are you green washing me"? In other words, don't compromise your arguments by questionable methods, it might backfire at you, and they won't...
