Do your daughter a favour and get her a LF Solo. Trust me. Take his advice. Trust me. The LF solo is the perfect ticket. Comes in a 3.5 and 5 this year i think, 4.5 in 2016 and 2015. One strut so it's light, not super efficient so it's parkable while riding-sits a bit back in the window-doest outru...

In the winter in Rhode Island, if you show up, you're good enough. Easy to die in really cold water, lots of current, "waves" and heavy wind. The guinea pig goes out and all the sudden there's a group of kiters 15 min later.

I would only ride in offshore winds if I knew that I had a failsafe. That could be a close island, a boat to pick me up, or friends on the beach ready to contact the proper authorities.
