Re: Wrinkles, WTF

The cloth can be cut on the 45 bias or you can buy it already cut and in rolls. Before cutting, lightly mist the cloth with a spray adhesive (3m77 works great) to help hold it together after its cut. Another light dusting can hold it in place on the board, wing, whatever before wetting it out. Cut i...

There are a bunch of good tutorials in this link. Follow the radio controlled plane and homebuilt aircraft world as there are a ton of resources.

Re: Wrinkles, WTF

Wrap the edges with bias ply cloth. It will go around compound curves and lie flat. The surface laminate overlaps the bias making a continuous layer

Re: Hydrofoil Wing Build

Cutting a strip of woven material about 3 cm wide on the bias will allow it to wrap the LE. The top and bottom can be overlapped with a small gap which leaves a continued layer. Another bias ply can be laid on top of the joint so there is more material to grind away to maintain the LE profiles. A li...

Re: Seeking design and build feedback: pocket foil build (paulownia)

Cool idea. There are a zillion ways to hollow out the boards. You can use a router and jig it up to create and I-Beam with each one; just cut holes; cut holes and an I-beam. Whatever. Instead of carbon tubes just use dowels to align everything for the glue up. What will give it strength is the glass...

Re: Peel-ply finish

Drafting velum leaves a mirror finish. It doesn’t conform well to compound curves.

Re: Peel-ply finish

If you can find drafting velum wax the snot out of it and place this on top of you outer layer of cloth. Top it with peel ply breather cloth etc and bag it. The velum will leave a glossy finish and is reusable.

Re: Plywood surf foil wing

TomTom, By using the drop cutter as in your photo the foil can be changed from one end to the other by using a different template on either side. if you need three adaptations re use the template of the left (for discussion) and put it onto the right end of the next block. It will match exactly and ...

Re: Plywood surf foil wing

Years ago my hobby was building Hand and Discus Lunched Gliders. These had a 1.5 meter wingspan and some as short as 750 mm. All were foam core with vac bagged carbon and kevlar skins. Cutting the cores was done with a hot-wire pulled over templates. With very few mods this can be adapted to foils f...

Re: Pneumatics

The I-beam press will allow you to shape the wood and ski building forums have great info on using them. If you resin infuse the laminates you have time to set the dry fabric (spray adhesive works great) and see if the vac is steady before adding resin. Infusion is also great since you can stop at a...
