Re: FS Speed5 - not getting on with it

Hmm TBH I've had the 12 out in 15 gusting 22 and it was already feeling pretty nice even on the dinky board - in the (standard) punchy gusty winds here it's hard not to be taken for a jump by accident at times. I've picked up a 150x50 King Gee to give it a whiz, let's see how that goes! Frankly, you...

Re: FS Speed5 - not getting on with it

First thing is first. I’m guessing it’s a used kite. What bar are you using? Are all lines equal when trimmed out for full power with the bar sheeted in? Have you done a bridle check? Yep, it is a used kite with about 10 sessions on it. I'll run a bridle/mixer test and see how that pans out for sur...

FS Speed5 - not getting on with it

Come from a (long, but sporadic) history of C kites and old Arcs, I'm really struggling to get on friendly terms with the Speed5 12. I had it out in a holey 12-16kts yesterday, which was probably pushing the lower end of usable (I'm 110kg on a 120x41 board) but I'm finding it quite slow turning and ...

Re: Sonic2/Race don't have a warranty because of light weight materials...

Interesting concept. In the UK you're protected by UK Consumer law and entitled to repair or refund for up to 6 years (depending on "reasonable" expected lifespan of the product), regardless of what the seller wants to say. Unless, of course, you crash it or tear it, or it fails due to fair wear and...

Re: 3 line front line - strength?

Hmm that's a 630kg is line, and does match the 330x2 thought process. Thanks, I'll look to see if I can find a less stretchy/shrinky alternative but that gives me a limit at least.

Re: Chinese KB Hydrofoil : 300 USD + shipment

Doesn't look like CF to me. Carbon powder impregnated maybe, but unless that's painted I can't see any hint of fibres.

Re: My first long swim

A detachable board leash would've kept the board from drifting away, no? I always kite with a board leash (reel leash) but it gets constant abuse because people claim it's riskier than no leash. I disagree, and will always use it, having had a similar situation back in about 2005 when the wind flip...

3 line front line - strength?

Anyone know what line strength/diam FS use on the front of their old 3 liners? measuring mine it looks flat and about 5mmx2mm. The only replacements I can find are 2.5mm at ~570kg and 3mm at 1000kg. 3MM seems a bit OTT?

Re: Psycho2 convert to FLS

FLS not possible on a 3-liner, but the FDS works fine. I made/used one on my old 3-line FS Titan 15.5, and several other kites since. Reposting http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=1004813#p1004813 ...added a 5th line safety because I was not sure how it would behave/pull if the wind picked up....

Re: Psycho2 convert to FLS

3->4 line is a lot of work for an old kite. I would go FDS. Yes, I think I was just coming full circle on that too! The joys of trying to revamp older kit! I'll follow the notation on the P3 line plan and make up my own FDS - careful testing in light wind should give me a hint if it's going to be p...
