Re: selfish short term kite industry

For years and years watersports, like waterskiing, windsurfing and yes kiting all hope the push to sell to kids will reap big dividends, Governing bodies like in our case the RYA all try it, but the fact is, you need a drivers license, some wheels and yes some disposable income unless you're lucky t...

Re: Is my instructor bias regarding buying gear?

I seem to be finding a lot of kites on sale (facebook marker and ebay) for the 11 meter, and can't find almost any 12 meters kite. Would an 11 meters be a good compromise for the first year of kiting? And yeah, I live in central Italy, so warm weather, and a temperate winter. That's because 12 mtr ...

Re: Beginner kite- Core XR5 or Naish Pivot

LL2017, I rode my new Pivot for 3 hours yesterday on a North Nugget (strapless) and even though they are different sizes I can say that the Pivot is a lot more wave orientated than the XR5. The Pivot was a very easy to ride kite. I really liked it at first but I need more time on it to give more in...

Re: Beginner kite- Core XR5 or Naish Pivot

I used to sell harnesses, 5000 annually, mostly waist, why? It's mainly a vanity thing, everyone thinks waists look cooler, but seats are more comfortable. Personally I use the DaKine Nitrous shorts but with a variety of bars depending on what I'm doing, wind or kite surfing, leisure or racing. Unle...

Re: Beginner kite- Core XR5 or Naish Pivot

I don't think the comparison is correct, I think the nexus is probably a fairer comparator with a Pivot from what I can gather, with it's more freestyle wave like orientation. The thing about the XR5 wether you know how to jump or not, send it and it'll rip you off the water with the minimum of fuss...

Re: Beginner kite- Core XR5 or Naish Pivot

Both great kites, but factually not the same genre to compare The XR5 is a five strut kite and the Pivot three, so there is a price and build difference. 5 strut kites generally have a greater wind range than three so all things being equal you can get away with fewer of them to build a quiver. Lots...

Re: Kiteboarding since 1995 what do you see next for sport?

I don't think there is any genuine 'hate' for foil kites, lots of us have used them over the years, but everyone has to recognise the issues with wind sheers, and shifts, with tip curls, stalls, inverts and accidents down the years, I have difficulty forgetting one guy who shall remain nameless goin...

Re: Harnesses and ribs

I just don't get the resistance to seats. They work better, give you much better support , less chance of rib injuries, and a far more comfortable IMO. Yeah but they don't look as cool  Especially if you want to rock the whole boardshorts over wetsuit look.. Which is exactly why we got Dakine ...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

Congrats on the 20 years, quite a few of the early guys didn't make it. Class of 99 me, inspired by a couple of locals who crossed the Channel using open cel ram airs, Flexi Blades. I'd met Cory Roesler in the Gorge back in 91-92 with his reel bar and delta kite waterski-ing, but the Gorge is a uniq...

Re: Core and German engineering meme

I have been following these "Core" threads hoping for an answer to one question. Why Core US has no spare parts in the US? And finally the answer according to CaptainCore, they can't afford to. Putting words in my mouth, nobody said they (Core) can't afford to, it's local dealers that would struggl...
