Re: Kite Release Training

Not everyone kites in a place where you can practice. Not sure what you mean. If you’re in an area where you can kite, you can practice self rescue. Many kite sites have obstacles at the launch and people and other obstacles on the shore that make practicing difficult. Unless one wants to practice ...

Kite Release Training

After a number of serious accidents at our local kitespots here in Northern California, it has become increasingly obvious that many kiters are not adequately prepared to quickly release their kite in an emergency. Instructors should include real-life situation training on usage of the quick release...

Re: Snow kite up and speed fly down.

The snowkite video "Mountains of Wind" by Will Taggart had some scenes of snowkiting up and speed flying down. I think it was Pascal Joubert doing the speed flying. Unfortunately, that fantastic video was removed after over 60K views. I found an abbreviated version here: http://www.alaskakiteadventu...

Re: How often do you get chased by dogs?

I haven't had it happen on the snow, but often when mountain biking.
I've been taken aback sometimes when the owner reprimanded me for riding away with their dog rather than reprimanding the dog for not obeying their commands. I've even been accused of trying to steal their dog.

Re: snow kiting - which is better? skies or board?

One advantage that snowboarders have over skiers is when gliding. Gliding is easier at first facing backwards with the wind at your back like on the water. However, in gliding you aren't going sideways to the wind, you're going into it. While in the air it doesn't matter whether on a board or skis, ...

Re: snow kiting - which is better? skies or board?

I've found that it's easier to stay standing on skis in lighter winds, because on a snowboard if the counter-pull of the kite drops off you fall over backwards. You can definitely edge better with skis in icy conditions, so you can handle a larger kite size and go upwind better. A snowboard is bette...
