Re: Frustrating good HF conditions

The problem I saw in your pic is first off you had a straight on shore break that keeps pushing you back to the beach. When we have those conditions here it's important to body drag with your gear as far as you can past the outside break then try to water start just as the next swell is coming in.

Re: Learning in light winds?

As far as lying on the board going upwind or downwind, never really tried it seems like you would have too much drag in the water. Its easier for me to just body drag with my hand on the rail and wait for a extra zephyr of wind to try and water start.

Re: Learning in light winds?

Just went out yesterday on a light wind day(6-9). Forecast had predicted 11-16 by mid-afternoon, never happened so I brought my Flysurfer 18m with my LF fish to see what would take place. One thing I found out quickly is to point the foilboard 40-50 deg.downwind with your body crunched up ready to m...

Re: Slingshot flight school masts: highly recommended

Saw the post about The kite shop-Americankiteboarding so I checked to see if they had some Liquid Force accessories for the FunFish. It turns out they make a conversion plate to use the SlingShot masts so I ordered some. Looking forward to being able to use my foil board in shallow water!

Re: Any of you only ride 17 tube kite foilboarding ?

I only rode with my 17mTurbine when I first started out learning to foil because the wind was consistently below 10 averaging 8-9. I figured I needed more kite to handle the lulls. There were several times when I dropped the kite and had to swim in, but I learned very quickly after swimming for 45 m...

Re: LEI for very marginal conditions

I use my 13m Velocity down to winds around 8, but under that I'm having to constantly sine the kite to keep it flying. I used to use my 17m SS Turbine for winds from 8-11 but switched to a foil kite ( Flysurfer sp4 Lotus 18m ). Now I can foil when the wind drops to 6. One afternoon before I got the ...

Re: Poll: Preferred kite for light wind hydrofoiling

The key word in your question was lulls down to 6. For that reason I chose the 12m foil kite. I'm new to hydro foiling (13 sessions) so I prefer to have power in the lulls or enough kite to keep it from falling out of the sky. This is the beginning of our summer doldrums so I use my 18m Flysurfer. M...

Re: Advice for learning progress

Sounds like your on the right track. Like Dylan said it's all about spending more time on the water. You mentioned that your dominant side is your right side , from that I'm assuming your have a goofy-foot stance (right foot forward on the board). Just remember when you feel a drop in speed from a l...

Re: Kite foil terms

Thanks for the explanations, now the next time I'm foiling and drop speed to the point that the board touches the water I'll either continue with a touchdown gybe or try and power up to get up on the foil. I'm still at the stage of trying to successfully complete a true foiling gybe.

Kite foil terms

I've seen the term touchdown jibes. Is this when you are foiling on a reach and before you turn the other direction come to a stop and drop your butt in the water turn the board around and water start or is it simply bringing the board back to the surface of the water, jibe the board and then foil t...
