Nothing New on the Gear Builders Forum

I just got bored seeing the "Tips for getting PU tubing over bar leader lines" in the latest post list for the past few weeks,

Re: What do you think is priority?

I am still using the super cheap wings I bought three years ago. I have one new high end wing that is very very good, but in real terms there's not a lot of difference. The old ones get me up on the foil, flag out nicely, feel nice in my hands. The new ones have excellent range, but "hard" edges to ...

Re: RANT ALERT! my god! who the hell can afford kite equipment

When I started kite foiling I struggled with the cost of everything. Once I got onto some good gear that I liked I found I didn't have to buy more stuff. While it was fairly expensive it has lasted extremely well and the hours of use have gone up enormously. Spreading the cost over the hours makes i...

Re: Walking a single front line - max wind?

I think it's impossible to put a number on it. The real answer is "depends". If the kite is sitting down flagged out then it's easy. If it's flogging around it will be hard. The actual wind strength is largely irrelevant. You can improve things by holding the single line down close to the ground to ...

Re: Virtual assistant to launch foil kite in very high winds

In the video the kite takes off with the tent pole still attached. :o :o :o It's not April 1st. WTF. PS In paragliding there is a thing called the Cobra launch. It's used in strong winds and very tight launch locations. The assistant feeds the wing into the air and holds onto the lower tip. The pilo...

Re: Good Cheap Wings

good and cheap wings are not exist, ... I have had excellent results from at least one brand of cheap wings (Switch). Same weight as an Aluula equivalent. Very cheap. Looks good. Easy to repair and modify. Amazing range. They have bagged out after 200+ hours each but still work ok. what price is fo...

Re: Kitesurfing on mud

It's easy to cross sandbars, or I guess mud banks, on a TT. Put the board up on the edge and just slide over. It's the same technique as riding across a sandy beach. Don't try to ride flat, you'll just get stuck. It's not necessary to remove the fins because they're not in contact with the sand/mud....

Re: Good Cheap Wings

Thanks for the Kauper tip. Just looking at the web site and they look quite expensive to me. They're about 100-200 EUR more expensive than a similar sized conventional Cabrinha or Duotone wing (to choose some brands at random). They are half the price of D/Lab wings. Do you have access to a cheaper ...

Re: Good Cheap Wings

Thanks for that. Unfortunately Takoon are sold out in most sizes, including the sizes I would want. I'll keep an eye on their web site and see what happens.
