Re: Is a bi-directional Alaia possible?

Glad you are having fun with it. As an Alaia rider myself I found the first couple of days a little tricky jibing, but persisted with it because I really loved how the board handled. Stick with it. You will get it eventually. Try in flatish water, it will make working on the transitions easier. I le...

Robbie, pretty epic encounters. Remember not to use those crocs as ramps! You have gotten pretty lucky, hope it keeps up.

Re: What animal have you encountered on the water?

Last year I was hit by a shark. Dorsal fin pierced the rail on my board. Total accident as I was traveling at speed one way, it was traveling in the direction toward me. Total fluke. If I didn't have straps on my board it would have chucked me off. I am sure it was as stunned as I was. There was no ...

Re: Non-Kitesurfing Careers That Get You On The Water The Mo

I am a builder among other jobs. Been my primary bread and butter for my career. I have done loads of other things because I am always interested in learning new skills, but having the trade behind me allowed me the freedom to pursue other ventures. I could always go back to building. I have a high ...

Re: What do people like about kiting in waves?

Kitesurfing in waves is so dynamic, you are always moving, always searching, and always getting into waves early leaving plenty of time to set up. As mentioned before, no duck diving, no long paddle outs, not waiting around, just constant moving around, jumping, riding, carving etc. I wish I started...

Re: Xenon Laluz 2013 - First ride

Still crazy happy with the 2012 135 La Luz. I am currently 80 kilos and use it mainly with a 12 mt kite from 12 knots to 18 before I switch down to a 9. Super smooth, soft landings...love the simple elegance of the design.

Re: Halving the lines to teach.

Sort lines are an excellent way to teach just having learned the method myself. Not only are the flying lessons easier, when you teach with shorter lines important skills like self rescue are easier to teach and lines are easier to untangle to keep the lessons going. I highly recommend shorter lines...

Re: Maui May 19-27 Kite Sizes?

I just got back yesterday from two weeks there. I weight 80 kilos and ride a surfboard. I took a 7,9 and 12. Used all of them, mainly the 9. You can look at the graphs but they won't tell you about Kanaha and Kihea. The unique, (and great) thing about these spots is the Venturi effect you get betwee...

Re: Maui Blues

I am currently here...Kona winds were good on Sat for Kihea, Sunday not so sure as I wasn't able to get out. Yesterday was the first day of no wind. Even though the Windguru graph showed crap winds all week, there has been some decent kiting. I would ignore the graph as anything can happen from day ...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

The Paipo looks like a great lightwind fun board. I shaped myself an Alaia for those light days and it is a great board to ride. I ride it finless and rely on the edge and concave. Goes upwind like no other board, planes in a second, and is uber smooth in the chop. Once you get going on a wave it is...
