Re: Review of 2009 Ocean Rodeo Mako Wide 140x40

Today's session was more light wind onshore. 12-15mph and I just couldn't get this board going with my 13m Rev II. I had some rides sort of flying down wind close to the shoreline but just couldn't go upwind. A switch to the LiteWave Wing got me flying upwind. My ability plays a large role because a...

Review of 2009 Ocean Rodeo Mako Wide 140x40

Taken out for the first time in 18-22 mph, heavy chop and lake waves with an 11m Rev II. Keep in mind I'm a beginner/intermediate... Dove the kite and first shot downwind and I could instantly feel it's carving ability. As I edged upwing the feeling was different than a board with fins on the heelsi...

Re: Recommend me a kite

Definitely agree about the whole "try before you buy", "stay with local kite retailers", "service orientated companies" concepts... Where I live though I don't have the luxury of any dealers or service. So I had to buy without trying... A friend sold me a Globerider 14m 2006 Sonic with total depower...

Anyone know a good teacher in Hatteras?

I'm heading there between Aug 10 and 17 and would like some instruction. I am not opposed to the school thing but would kind of like a guide to show me places where someone of my ability should go. I'm 47, an energetic beginner intermediate who needs help on transition turns (50% of mine look OK), t...

Re: Need board recommendation for chop and waves, medium wind...

Yeh I'll report back on this board. I am concerned I went a little small but I did want something for the higher wind and surf. I wonder if standard twin tips will still feel OK to me because I do like the feel of them. It's just sometimes the surf eats me up...

Re: Need board recommendation for chop and waves, medium wind...

I'd like to thank Stefaans and Chris at Windy Devil for hooking me up with the 140 mako Wide. The price was right , the service great! Also the guarantee of satisfaction or return the board within 30 days, no hassles, sealed the deal. So now I'm waiting to try the beast! Interestingly talked to a se...

Re: The End of the REV - does anybody else find it sad?

This is no end of the REV for me. There will be no dinosaur relics in bags in my garage (maybe in 3 years). Down the road (within 3 years) I have no fear of my kites tanking on the auction blocks. The 2009 Rev is the kite that changed my kite life. I had Sonic '06's from GK - they were sloooooow and...

Anyone use the new Litewave laceup binding vs MacDaddy?

I was wondering if anyone had the opportunity to try either the new 2009 Litewave Laceup binding or actually try both the Laceup and year older MacDaddy binding? Do you have an opinion because I already know I like the MacDaddy but I have an opportunity to get a 2009 Vision board with the new laceup...

Re: Need board recommendation for chop and waves, medium wind...

Thanks Neptune! Yes I have spoken with Litewave Dave and the boards are essentially identical. So you like the board in chop... The board I have a line on is the 136x44 - do you think this will be a little big or just right for 15-25 mph (11m - 12m conditions)? Peeling down the waves as well?

Re: Need board recommendation for chop and waves, medium wind...

Have checked out all the boards folks have recommended. I have found 3 used boards for sale with potential. Any opinions on the 2008 Litewave Rasta 136 x 44, 2009 Crazyfly Raptor Pro 137 x 41, or 2007 UG FLX 132? Would love to plunge on the OR Mako 140 but none out there for good price...
