Re: Swim out drift launch

when snowkiting with my OR flite, if i am feeling lazy in light winds i sometimes wind in the center lines until the kite rolls over onto its back and then wind in all four lines onto the bar.The kite just drifts in towards you upsidedown with no pull. Saves having to walk to the kite in deep snow. ...

Re: Looking for specs for DIY build

it is 48cm between the wings, so yes TE to LE. I went with mid aspect ratio, I think the main wing was about 55 or 56 cm wide.

Re: Looking for specs for DIY build

I built a foil last year, i hand shaped wood cores to paper templates and vacuum bagged on the carbon skins. Turned out strong and light. I wanted an easy to ride foil and after alot of research i went with the following specs which worked well for me. I drew everything out on graphing paper first b...

Re: Snowkiting - the best part of kiteboarding, but no one c

The problem is that snowkiting is a fickle mistress, as mentioned above you need wind and decent snow, but almost as importantly you also need vis. And getting all this to line up at the same time that you can escape from work and commitments is a rare thing so I can understand the low numbers. For ...

Re: DIY Mast Construction

Thanks Denisesewa, thats great info. Planning to start my second build soon. This time i think I'll try the table saw to shape the wood core to the template rather than just using the grinder. I like the wood core method, it ends up quite strong at lower cost as you do not need huge amounts of carbon.

Re: DIY Mast Construction

I have been having the same problem with mast ventilation on one tack, when you reshaped the profile did you make the leading edge slightly sharper? Also what is the view on the exit of the mast foil, is a bit of concave in the back half better than straight?

Re: What happened to DIY

Agreed, unless you already have the tools and vacuum pump, etc then it seems cheaper to buy an entry level foil especially if you buy used. I have no regrets with my homebuild wood core foil though, its lightweight, easy to ride, stable but still fast enough to be fun. I am planning to build another...

Re: Catastrophic quality/service from Naish, importer and de

You could also check for twisted bladders in the LE or struts, to see if that if having an effect on the kite. Seems that s a fairly common problem and an easy fix. Regarding kite construction, I think the panels are all cut by laser cutter these days so it is unlikely a wrong sized panel. It is pos...

Re: Mast profile experiences?

Thanks Denisesewa, that is great info. With my homebuild I also have ventilation issues on one tack and also alot of noise from the TE so I'll see if adding more carbon and then sanding the TE sharp will solve the problem.

Re: A board build

Agree with Tom that rocker is tricky to measure and define. When designing a new board i look at both the both the nose and tail rocker in sum in relation to the length of the board as well as the curves from the middle to the tail and nose. I like boards in the 2 to 3,5 cm range for tail rocker but...
