Line length to kite size power ratio

I've heard that every 3m of kite line length equates to roughly 1m in kite size, so you can make your 12m kite fly like a 10m kite by switching from 27m lines to ~21m lines. This makes sense if you think about the power generated during the power stroke (line length will change the size of the power...

Rigging a trim loop off the depower strap

In the DVD "Secrets of kiteboarding" the guy recommends rigging a trim loop style loop off of the depower strap so that you can radically depower the kite if the wind picks up dramatically and puts you in a dangerous position. The idea is that hooking into a depower strap loop will basically cause t...

Thanks for all of the advice, I appreciate it. I think that one other problem that I have had to is that I don't crank the kite around hard enough when I make the turn, which causes the kite to drift toward the edge of the wind in the opposite direction, so that when I'm starting out in the new dire...

Either way, sounds like I want to keep the kite at around 10 or 2. When i send the kite in the opposite direction i imagine that there is a far amount of power in the kite as it passes through the window... how do you keep this from becoming some sort of unintend sideways "jump"? I'm guessing that y...

how do you skip to toeside? do you carve up wind and step forward with your back foot? I tend to lean back to take stretch the lines and then I stand up straight and step forward.

Carving transitions

I'm an intermediate kiter, staying/going upwind, jumping some decent size jumps, and working on jibbing. I saw a video on doing a carving transition where you switch to toe-side and then change the direction of your kite while shifting your weight back to heel-side for a big carving turn to head bac...
