Re: Shark Attack of Kite Foiler in Key West

I just got back from a month in SPI and noticed your reply. I must have foiled at the [north] SPI jetty at least a half-dozen times this trip. Ignorance is bliss [until now]. I did fall a few times on the outside, in that brown water that sharks reportedly like to hunt in. BTW [but not wanting to sp...

Re: Soo ... I soaked my lines in vinegar

Re: Calcium deposits - Yeah, you do have calcium and other mineral deposits [Mg, Si, ets.] on your lines, unless you kite in deionized or distilled water. A thin layer of deposits forms on the individual fibers. That, along with the individual fibers losing their set and getting bent, causing the di...

Re: Shark Attack of Kite Foiler in Key West

Ha! I bet increased income correlates with an increase in attacks. More research is needed...

Re: Soo ... I soaked my lines in vinegar

Vinegar dissolves mineral deposits. Anyone use vinegar to clean a coffee maker or remove/prevent water spotting on windows?

Re: Kiting the South Pacific

@Hugh2, I [still] feel your pain. I'm about 5 years post-op from supraspinatus reattachment. I also only have a short-head bicep. My long-head biceps is long gone. I'm sure you will be diligent in your rehab. I've had a few injuries and surgeries, with shoulder rehab being the longest and hardest. G...

... In all my years of kite boarding in shallow water I have run over many sharks with my TT and SB. And there were some big ones - 8' or so. Most of the time people in the water don't even know they are there.

Re: 1.1mm Line Splicing steps - critique me please

I just asked Greenhat if they were ordering any of the out-of-stock Medium loop needles and they said "no." As mentioned below, they only have L and XL in stock. Thanks @watercamper for posting such a detailed guide. Do you recall what the size of the Daho splicing needle that you purchased from gr...

Shark Attack of Kite Foiler in Key West

This guy was kite foiling. He was working on tacks and attacked at the moment he briefly touched down. Not that I get to foil much in salt water, but makes me want to paint my foils with the Armstrong colorway stripes. I wonder what the science is behind those stripes? Experts are quoted in that art...

Re: First directional board - advise needed

What everyone prior said about getting a relatively big board and... Mount some hooks at the extremes of the adjustment range, to give as much space between the hooks as possible. Hooks give you advantages of both straps and strapless. Hooks keep your feet on the board when needed and allow both fee...
