Re: Stabilizer's lifting force - positive or negative?

What "stable" does even mean in the context of hydrofoil? Human walking is essentially very complicated juggling between unbalanced positions. Upright standing, or even sitting is unstable. Newborn babies can't do any of these, therefore, the only balanced human position not requiring conscious inpu...

Re: Stabilizer's lifting force - positive or negative?

The center of gravity of the rider + hydrofoil located at the the blue dot, really? Hint: it is a high school physics problem where you are asked to calculate the center of the mass of the two bodies separated by some distance.

Re: Stabilizer's lifting force - positive or negative?

When the Horst Sergio monofoil hype started a couple years ago, I tried a couple foils stabless. One reason I stopped was the need for more rear weight shift as you speed up. It just felt so wrong and backwards. Amazing what the brain learns to do and gets used to. Your post raises more questions t...

Re: Stabilizer's lifting force - positive or negative?

How far the center of the lift (COL) can move? Certainly, it can't be more than half of the distance between the wings (that is 25-30 cm) divided by the difference (actually a factor) between the wings lift capabilities. Given that stab area is roughly 1/4 of the main wing, we arrive to about 7 cm o...

Re: Stabilizer's lifting force - positive or negative ??

It doesn't matter what Zeeko or Gong design thinking was/is, because they have never produced a foil for hydrofoil racing. A sport competition is an event which quickly weeds out inefficient designs. In the racing world the design converged to a planner with the main wing angled 3 degrees relative t...

Re: Stabilizer's lifting force - positive or negative ??

Canards were used by Wright brothers, but then the competitors quickly discovered the traditional plane design, which is superior. This situation is analogous to hydrofoil, where canards is essentially dead. The stabilizer is called that name for a reason. Therefore, it's role is not really to creat...

Re: High Aspect wing hype not for kiting?

Why hydrofoil wing span has any relevance to the turn radius? It is not a kite which span measures in meters, and has some non-negligeable moment of inertia. It is attached to the board which has more significant impact from that perspective. And, even with the board consideration I refuse to believ...

Re: Off Topic - America's Cup Sailing - Foiled Monohulls

Yes, sport preferences are highly subjective. For me, those sailors pretending to ride Tour De France on a boat look like a circus. So why not crew of 2, the pilot and copilot only? And yes, going one step further, if the sailboat were remotely controlled, then even more cost savings. Because nobody...

Re: Off Topic - America's Cup Sailing - Foiled Monohulls

Generating power manually is retarded. Can't they just specify the max weight of the battery allowed, and have 1 person crew?
