Thanks for the quick replies. Haha, not going to be working on the days I go kiteboarding. I will be sitting in the back of the plane on those days.
Of course, you got the right idea!
You will love it. I have some pilot friends who picked up kiting really well. Have a great time!

Re: TT thin vs thick rails

nope. thick rails hold better and re-set better when you are bouncing over chop. Actually easier to ride. thin rails can seem to have a precise edge feel, whether real or imagined, but they can blow out unexpectedly and usually make board construction more complicated. In many boards with stepped do...

Re: Researching kiteboarding locations

If you don't mind a wetsuit, PDX comes to mind. Various options within an hour, lots of kiters, stores, etc. Need warmer? Houston/Galveston could be good. SF bay area could be good too... But to really learn, you will probably need to commit to kiting several days in a row, preferably in the same/si...

Re: Rider weight versus foil classification (wind range)

To make more lift, it has to go faster. How will he go faster? And what determines the speed? Does drag play a role in this equation? At any reasonable small angle of attack, a foil will make a certain amount of lift at any given speed. If the speed is not enough to cause the foil to make lift forc...

Re: Rider weight versus foil classification (wind range)

Riding at higher angle of attack means closer to stall. Especially with more weight because the weight means higher surface loading. So I think the variable to focus on is speed. For heavier weight, a given foil has to make more lift to take off. To make more lift, it has to go faster. It’s similar ...

Re: How dangerous is this?

Hard to say.
Some places might not be so wise/safe to come up to someone else’s child on the beach.
etc.
But if my kid? Wouldn’t be riding on the kiteboard in high wind/3m waves.

Re: Multiple kites or multiple bars

downside is once you are up on the foil, you get overpowered I think this is why half the guys I know who tried foiling have not stick with it. Key is to establish new top end limits for the kite(s) and not violate them. When a 12 starts you riding at 8 knots instead of 12 or 14 knots, you need to ...

Re: Multiple kites or multiple bars

I think you need 2-3 kites if you want a normal (10-30 knits) wind range. If you are small and use a supersize wave foil, they might be 4, 6, 9m lei kites. If you are bigger and/or more of a “medium” size foil wing, maybe 6, 8, and 10 or 12m. Adding 5m line extensions is a good way to get more low e...
