Hi, I just purchased a brand new 2017 North Trust bar and the 5th Element Upgrade Kit. Both the kit instructions as well as the online videos point to a pre-existing 9mm stainless steel ring on the bar located just above the stainless steel pulley; a 9mm ring that looks to bridge two lines on the right front line. My bar simply does not have this; it just has one long front line. I have contacted two retailers as well as Duotone to no avail. Anyone know what the hell is going on?!

If your bar does not have the steel ring located within the "one long front" flying line above the Safety Pulley, then there's no way to convert it over to a 5th line system using the 2018 conversion kit.
Strangely there doesn't seem to be a conversion kit marketed for the 2015-2017 Trust bars. It sounds like you were sold the 2018 conversion kit based on what you're stating. So either the 2018 conversion kit is backward compatible (back to 2015 when the single-line flagging system was introduced) and the directions failed to address this, or you need to get a conversion kit for specifically the 2015-17 bars if it exists. Good luck!

Ah! That is making sense! Helpful. Thanks! At the very least I know the 2017 bar I have is not compatible with the 2018 upgrade kit!

What's more disconcerting is the North dealer that sold it to you didn't know that the 2017 bar is not compatible with the 2018 conversion kit.

Is it even possible to convert a 2017 quad bar to 5th?

No! The reason I can confirm this is because my dealers are currently in Hood River with Duotone/North (man I hate that name) right now and this was confirmed. No upgrades available for pre 2018 North Quads.
