ARX 2001 11.5 vs Airblast 2002 8.4

Postby The beginner » Sat Jun 14, 2003 9:41 am

I'm beginner and I don't know which one I'm going to buy (ARX 2001 11.5 or Airblast 2002 8.4). Which one is the best for me (my weight is 61 kg) and what is the wind range of those 2 kites?
Thanks for your help.

Airblast, without any doubt. Look for 02 series2 (dacron Leading Edge and two LE valves). they have many improvementes on construction.

I learned on an ARX 11.5 and found that the kite got easily damaged and obviously wasn't intended to be used as a beginner kite. I haven't used a 2002 AB but have used the 2001 8.4 AB and it has miles miles miles more top end than the 11.5m ARX. However the low end of the AB was found wanting whereas the ARX could get me going in 10 knots with my directional board. I'd choose the AB over the ARX. The 2001 AB jellyfished more than the ARX but this may not be so bad on the 2002 model. Also the 2002 has dacron (as most 2002 kites do) and this lasts way better than what was on the older kites like the ARX and AR5. This is important for a beginner as you'll be crashing the kite often.

With your light weight the Shallow foiled Airblast would work well...

however there are dedicated beginner/intermediate kites on the makrket that would work better than both these kites for someone at your level. The same brand that made the ARX makes a kite called the AERO and these are really stable and don't fall from the sky and are made from dacron. Wipika (thay make the Airblasts) make the Hydro which is also a beginner/intermediate kite.

don't take any notice of the above comments and go for an intermerdiate kite(if your just learning)theres plenty of great ones around that you'l probally hang onto for wave riding anyway.
the arx would be more begginner freindly but its still going to spank you.
if you feel you have to have a high aspect kite go for a bigger one and learn in lighter winds.
an 8.4 airblast has as much lift as any new kite(and yes a higher top end thats because it is a higher aspect ratio) and will scare the shit out of you,and thats if you manage to fly it properly, they are very trim sensitive.
a good shop should advice u .
