After a long search on the internet and here on kiteforum, i can't find any information on the length of the lines in the Y profile of the 5th element system. It seems to me, that if the Y lines (part of the front flying lines between Y split and kite) are too short it changes the curve of the leading edge, which will effect the flying characteristics. When they are too long, i'm afraid the system will not work properly, just pulling the kite out of shape instead of tumbling it. Has anybody got some inf about the line lenghts of this y profile?? The 5th line will be fitted to the center strut of my Fuel 9 and 13.
Thanx in advance!

Have seen a drawing with linelength of 13.40 m. I have used a original 27 m line which I conneted halfway to the base line, so 13.5 m. Also read about problems for the big kites (20m), because the Y puts the kite out of shape.

Thanx! I was planning to do it that same way. Did you sleeve your lines halfway? And how does it fly?? I can imagine you will lose some low end, because the Y shape makes your projected size a bit smaller... Ow, and what size kite do you fly with it?

Dont use normal lines (250-350kg)
The Shift/5th. line is a 450kg line.
Else you will have a "Recon system" when you go for your first kiteloop..

I used a 1100kg on mine. That should be enough

"When they are too long, i'm afraid the system will not work properly, just pulling the kite out of shape..."
if the y-lines are to long, it'll work as usual.
e.g. if the lines are much to long, like 27m, then you have a classic 4-line-set up, which works pretty good ....
so, the only problem could be to short Y-lines ...

Ahum, the Y setup is not done just for the fun of it... When the 5th line is pulled, on a 4 line setup, the tips will widen and the leading edge will straighten, making the kite stall. Therefore the Y is implemented; to keep the tips together when pulling the 5th line, so the kite tumbles a bit forward, and totally loses power. Thanx anyway.
And this heavier center line (marlow d12 2,5 or 3 mm) can be ordered at most sailing/surf shops, since it is also uses a lot in sailboats as a replacement for steel cables

Yes, i sleeved the line halfway and put a knot in it (preveting for slipping) and then connected line at the normal way.
I am only setting up the 5th element and didn't use it up to now, but will use it for the 20, 16, 11.5 and 8.1. I hope it won't affect the low end negative for the 20m, else I will use the normal 4-lines for the 20 m.
