Repair help !: Gluing a broken valve on LE

Postby Dr_Rosen » Thu Dec 27, 2007 12:46 pm

Hi

Unfortunately - on my 2008 kite - one of the plastic/rubber valves connecting the onepump system between the LE and one of the struts has broken. I am talking about these valves where there is one on the LE and one on the strut, and the are connection by a piece of rubber-tube - creating a one-pump system......... Hoepfully you understand which piece I am talking about.

One of those on the LE is broken in two. and unfortunately they are glued to the bladder so I either have to change the LE bladder og repair the valve (at least until I can get a new bladder).

What kind of glue would I use for that, that is strong enough???

Thanks

Hi,
I`ve never dealt with such problem but I think that just to bond the broken parts won`t be strong enough. Posting a picture will be better way to figure it out but I`ve come to this idea.
Can you insert a plastic tube with smaller diameter as a bush/insertion so the both parts will hold connected and then to use some glue...

Regards,
L.

I used Aquaseal to tame a un-glued valve on a Slingy. I'm speaking of the areola from which the nipple protrudes and is glued to the bladder. It took a few tries.. Use plenty of alcohol to clean the two surfaces ..and I roughed it up with a bit of sandpaper.

you may take the broken valve off the bladder, and glue a new onto it.

It is glued onto the bladder. But I heard a tip about putting the bladder in boiling water?

hi Dr Rosen, I have plenty of spare ones as there comes a bunch as spares with the LF kites I have - even though the 08 ones can´t break it seems! I live near you I think so come by tomorrow to pic one up instead of doing a bad repair

if gluing is the only solution you need pattex glue, it comes with repair kits and I have plenty of that as well but it will not be as good a solution as just swapping the hoose

best regards

I've done this twice for replacing nipples. Boiled a mug full of water in the microwave, submurged the nipple, pealed it back bit by bit. Reheated the water and repeated til the nipple came off. Used kitefix glue to ahere the new nipple. No problems since

Yeah, I've used those airtime valves, good quality. Only thing was about 3 months after attatching my first one I got a leak around the base. I've put some glue around the base of the self stick type just to help seal them ever since.
