North Freestylefish too heavy

Postby Feuer » Sun Mar 30, 2008 10:52 pm

I just got my north freestylefish. Somehow I think my board is too heavy. My board weights without fins and straps more then 4kg and with fins and straps add more than ,5kg. Together more than 4,5kg.
I wanted to buy a light wave and fun board to play in small waves. On north´s webpage, they say that the board should have 3,3kg.
Somehow I’m disappointed from north that they say something else than it is. I think it is OK when they are wrong by 10% but not more.

How heavy are your boards? How heavy are such boards? I think of small wave boards to play. (SS SRT 5´2 or 5,11, naish, …)

Thank you.

Feuer

I have a SS 5'11'' and it's light compared to a north rocket fish.
North board construction is based on windsurf technology and the SRT is based on surfing (epoxy) which is light but can break faster.

Just try to kite with the fish and I think you will get used to the weight, if it does not sink into the bottom of the see. :o

good luck.

Both my 08 Rocket Fish and Freestyle Fish are very light, they are lighter than any other boards by far. I will try to weight it for you (I don't have scales at home) will try to get a figure for you.

just to feel and pick it up it is light as.

The reason I love the Rocket Fish (5'9") is because it is so light.

just weighted the Salomon Noseless 5'3" which is very comparable (same shape as the Salomon 5'0"?)
It is 3,2kg with fins and a longboard pad. It has no straps. But this is a surfboard and is not build for kiting.

I also weighted the Liquid Force Rawson 5'10'' at 3,9 / 4kg complete with fins, pads, straps etc. And it feels quite light to me. This is more of a custom kitesurfboard construction.

4,5kg complete seems quite normal to me for this kind of construction.

Cn anyone please share impressions on the performance of the Freestyle Fish?
How does it perform in chop, small waves, and as a light wind board....

Thanks!

Performance in smaller waves is great - big fun - easy to ride - Some people and magazin reviews say it is really good for light wind too, which is for my weight (85 kg) and if you want to use a smaller kite in the waves not what I experienced - it is not bad though. Nice is the handy length for travelling (normal boardbag!) - so if you don't sail all the time in perfect and big wave conditions a great board - strapless or with straps

Hey Deto,

this board is best for light to med winds and small waves. As the booster says, small waves, big fun. I am 68 kg and I find that it is really good for light winds as the board is so light and easy to throw around without the larger feel of a large light wind board. I can understand that if you are heavier like booster that the light wind range would decrease.

if you have onshore smaller waves that you are trying to be happy in with a wave board then this board works well. If you have 3' waves and bigger and more wind, go the 2008 Rocket Fish.

I have like hours of prattle on our website on both boards

Plenty of photos and fun there too.
