Prep, that is a classic idea!

If the guys surf they are bound to get some surf up as well, plus as you mentioned there are a number of lakes along the way if they are flat water kiters.

hi there,
I live in Mozambique on Murrebue beach! (Pemba Cabo delgado) :thumb:
it is by far the coolest spot in the country.
in the period you mentione the North East is blowing, is a trade wind, so pretty reliable, (average 18/20 knots) is also the rain season, so if it rains the wind stops, but at the same time it doesn't really rain a lot around here and never for many days in a row.
murrebue spot offers flat water and I mean flat! at low tide, choppy when the tide is in and cool waves on the reef.
it is never too crowded (maximum we saw 18 kites in the air at the same time) with 10km of beach at disposal.
I regularly organize downwinds on waves and there is within 40 min. drive a couple of really cool wave spots.
there is accommodation, a kite school and a restaurant on spot. the assistance on the beach is very good.
saw somebody mentioned winter ... that's the South east season, in the months between April and September this year, we kited 73.2 % of the time, based on my statistics (days in wich we flew at least a 12) and trust me, if wind is up I am out there.
for more info you can contact me directly on my mail info@murrebue.com
cheers :bye:
Carlo

Hi Carlo,

My name is Reto (a Swiss kitesurfer living since 5 years in Cape Town).

Every July/August I am looking for new kite destination. Last year I was in Madagascar. Check out
the ikiteboarding article. Normally I travel alone to get in touch with the locals.
http://www.ikiteboarding.com/kiteboardi ... -trip.aspx

This year I would like to travel to Mozambique. It would be nice if you can help me to get some information like:

best months to travel
where to kite Ponta ó'Oura, Valankulos, Pemba etc.
how to travel cheap. flight directly to Maputo or Pemba, renting a car in Mozambique or SA etc where to stay

I tried to contact you on your email but it is not working.

reto (reto.guler@hotmail.com)

Thanks so much

Cheers

Reto

I think the season is the same as Mauritius , Madagascar , Reunion etc. Your winter time. I was thinking about going up to Pemba with Kite Pirates but they were full so ended up going to Le Morne for the best trip of my kiting life!
If i remember correctly you need to go up north in the winter to get the trade winds. It may be worth having a chat to the guys at prestige or ocean2air in Durbs. I know they spend a fair bit of time in the South and will probably know a little more about it.

Good Luck

You can have an awesome Mozambique holiday, with a side order of kiting.
Or you can have an awesome kiting holiday in Cape Town.
I would pick the Mozambique experience and be happy with the occasional kiting

Guys, I am afraid to tell you that Carlo, Il Pirata, has passed away. Complications with Malaria. He was the main reference on our sport in Mozambique.
