Is the delta shape a lot of companies are making a good option for a 230 lb rider who rides gusty inland lakes?

For gusty, crummy, wind with lots of holes in it I would say the Delta is the shape of the future. For super high performance I would say no. If I kited on an inland gusty lake I would have a Delta.
That being said for me at 165 lbs a 7.5M Kahoona is pretty much a one kite quiver with a surfboard and a twin tip. I use the Kahoona anytime the wind is questionable.
By far the most stable, quickest relaunching, easiest flying kite I have ever used.
I think once you lose the wingtip area with a delta you gain a lot of stability but lose a good amount of turning performance. Basically an airplane with no rudder.
Like most things the Delta is a compromise.

Do you live in Dallas? If so, mind if I give you a ring? I used to live there and come back from time to time. I want to hear about the kiting scene. Thanks. If you dont want to post your number on here - you can email me at

The future? The Delta is the shape of the Present!
Look at all the brands that use it now. Even Naish has one, and it looks like the total opposite of the Sigma shape.
I'm loving the delta's. I am 225lbs and ride inland lakes...huge Great Lakes.

I am curious as to why anyone would choose the Delta shape over a Bow kite. Please enlighten me.

The deltas pull a bit more in the turns, so you can throw it aggressively around the sky. The trick to flying a bow in light winds is to keep it as still and steady as possible. They also relaunch a bit easier, but there isn't much in it. Some delta kites also don't depower that well, there is still a bit of pull even when on safety. The biggest disadvantage to delta kites though is that they keep pulling hard regardless of how well you edge and pop, you don't get that slack that C kite users love.

@ cab driver
I move from flying cabrinhas convert & crossbow to wainman rabbits... although i like a lot the cabrinhas i couldn't deal anymore with the heavy bar pressure and the leash twisting while attach to the safety! having said that i've never tried the ids models... but i also wanted to try something different so i went for the the rabbits and really like them.. not as forgiven as the cabrinha but bar pressure is a lot less and i can fly one size smaller than the cabrinhas...

I think it would be good to hear the bow vs delta shape argument from you as well, since I get the impression that your question seems to indicate that you believe that bow is better than delta.

I heard Ozone was turning the Iight xc into a delta shape. Is that true? I can't wait to see the new kites.
