trying to open a local spot to kiting

Postby dougdstecklein » Sat Jul 24, 2010 6:19 pm

I am looking for info on how to present your case to officials on opening a local spot to kite boarding. I live in Kansas and we have a large group of kite surfers that would like to kite at Longview Lake. As of now it is not permitted, but windsurfing is.

Thanks,
Doug

First you have to get as many people as possible to have the power
and than you can do it.
You should also start making friends with windsurfers and teach them for the benefit of kiting
to wind their heart and respect so no conflict would arise.

If people that way were able to open recently a Dog Friendly Park "BARK PARK"
and enjoying their Dog at Tropical Park Miami FL it's possible to do the same for Kite Boarding Park also.
You need to come up with a plan and similar strict rules also before you present it to the authorities.
As they say "park is for everyone" and I agree :!:
Good luck :thumb:

Might try to talk to some of the folks on the Florida forum. There are folks there that have lots of experience talking with and presenting to government officials. They hang around here but you can probably contact them better on

Montrose Beach is the only beach allowing kiting in Chicago.

At one point it was banned. A local, Skysurfer, has worked his rump off and got the ban lifted.
Chicago is so messed up, that even surfing was banned until last year!

If you go to http://www.chicagokitesurfing.com, it's pretty well documented. There is a sticky post at the top of the list in the "where to ride section"
The basics are that every kiter has to have a iko or pasa certification. Then they can get a free streamer for their kite. Without it, you can't ride. There are still always problem kiters though. So who knows how long it will last.

The fact is, the City of Chicago has nothing to gain, and much to lose if there is ever an accident.

My solution, I moved.

Good luck!

Conact Ricki

I remember him posting several good stories of kiters rescuing swimmers and boaters.
This shows kiters in a possitive light.
