I would say try an epic Renegade. a 9m should be enough in most conditions.
It will be a very nice kite to ride. Easy relaunch, easy handeling and simply fun to ride.

Saying someone should try a kite isnt pimping. It simply is a kite that will do great with beginners.
So will a Best Kahoona, F-one revolt, Switch Combat or Method (not sure which one), Blade trigger, Fluid ATV, Starkites Sbow. There are alot of kites good for beginners. But i know for sure the Renegade is also a fun kite to ride.

Simply try some kites when you have the chance.

Blade Trigger is a great kite but not really a beginner kite, it's pretty quick.
Blade Vertigo is more for beginners, easy and more gentle.
The Switch Combat is a competition level Freestyle true C kite.
The Switch Method is a three strut, medium aspect delta type kite for wave riding and all around freeride, fast and easy to fly with fast relaunch to keep you out of trouble in the waves.
The Switch Nitro is five strut, higher aspect, C shaped sle, good for flatwater riding, boosting and looping, and racing.

Most manufacturers have a good entry level kite as you can see from all these testimonials. . As a beginner, the attributes you should be focusing on are stability, relaunch, durability, and range. Wave kites usually make great entry level kites and I have spent some time riding 3 models I can defenitely recommend to any novice. The Naish Cult(now Bolt?), the North Rebels, and the Epic Renegades. You can't go wrong with any of these. I will add this however, the Renegades are less expensive, and I doubt you will find better customer service than Epic. Naish and North have great customer service too, but not as timely as Epic (less than 1 day before Dimtri himself will make contact). I purchase all my kites and am real happy with the Epic and North kites I currently have. Good luck

Wainmans are what I learned on. I have found them incredibly simple to use and tweak, well constructed, and the service from the company and dealers have been phenomenal. The kite's stability, relaunch, and wind range is what I would say I have benefited from the most. Friends with more experience than I that ride other kites prefer mine to theirs as well but at the end of the day we all come of the water stoked and with the same big smiles.

I took my lessons about 6 months ago. I was lucky enough to use quite a few different kites including liquid force envy, wainman boss, slingshot rpm and ozone catalyst. I have to say the catalyst was by far the best/easiest kite to use. It has a very clean bar it's predictable, light and fast. I was so happy with it I bought a 12m and an 8m straight after my lessons. I have progressed very quickly on them and am now doing backrolls, toe side and big boosts ect.

Ozone Catalyst all the way....you will not regret it!

Oh I forgot to add that the Catalyst was the best kite to relaunch out of all of them....by a country mile!

Don’t really understand why spending money in “beginner” kite….seems that our friend knows how to go upwind and most probably will start doing some tricks pretty soon.
IMO whatever he buys in SLE/BOW/HYBRID will suit him well……I wouldn’t recommend a C Type kite though.
The “beginner” kite is only marketing bushtit for Kite manufacturers ….all kites are easy and friendly…..and you won’t look for another kite after some months when you ll feel more comfortable with your riding
It took me surely more time to learn as my first kite was a Flexifoil ION3 but once I learned it took me to the sky!!!!!!
